Let me take you through the history of this property... and it’s a good one!

Before the Winfield house was built here, the first house on the site was Hertford Villa, the largest 8 homes originally built in the park as part of John Nash's development (the architect that designed Buckingham Palace) at the Royal Regent’s Park.
The house was designed by Decimus Burton with financing from his father James Burton. Decimus has 2 brothers, one an Egyptologist and one a physician. They were members of the Athenaeum Club in London (and likely Freemasons as well).
The house was designed for the notorious Regency rake, Francis Seymour-Conway, 3rd Marquess of Hertford, who used it for orgies.
Do you remember Lord Steyne in the book (and later movie) “Vanity Fair,” that character was based on Lord Hartford...
In Hertford's last years, he was said to live with a retinue of prostitutes and was mentally unstable. Charles Greville claimed "there has been, so far as I know, no such example of undisguised debauchery".
Subsequent occupants of the home included American financier Otto Kahn and British newspaper proprietor Lord Rothermere.
This is where this story ties back into my earlier research on the Otto Kahn House on Fifth Avenue in NYC....

The villa was damaged by fire in 1936 and was subsequently purchased by Barbara Hutton, an American heiress, who demolished it and had the current home Whitfield House built that stands today.
Barbara Woolworth Hutton (11/14/12-5/11/79) was an American heiress to the retail tycoon Frank Winfield Woolworth.
Her nickname was the "Poor Little Rich Girl.”

After extensive alterations, Winfield House became the ambassador's official residence in 1955. It is currently owned by the US State Department. It is known as one of the nicest houses in London.
I wonder if the original house designer Decimus Burton has any relation to the famous Tim Burton who created the recent Alice in Wonderland films... and is also the ex-husband of Helena Bonham Carter who plays the Red Queen in same (and is a Rothschild through marriage)?
