1/5 Brexit Britain is in as ugly, bitter & dangerous state as I can ever recall. Political parties, the press, communities & families are hopelessly split &, as this epic summer blazes on, the two sides slump exhausted, like medieval armies plotting the final & decisive battle.
2/5 Someone, perhaps one or all of these politicians or an outsider like Gina Miller or Sadiq Khan, simply HAS to rise up, statesman-like, & make real the #PeoplesVote that is surely our last chance of delivering this country from the fast approaching #Brexit catastrophe.
3/5 They’ll need a persuasive & emotionally engaging vision on why #Europe is a great & civilising influence in our national life & how we can ALL make things better for the millions who felt so alienated by it that they were easy meat for the #Leave sharks in the first place.
4/5 They’ll also need the perception & strength to remodel our ties with an imperfect #Europe when this is all over & the eloquence to persuade its leaders, our PARTNERS, to bend on some of the fractious issues that continue to trigger so much unrest or more will follow.
5/5 Most of all they’ll need courage, cunning & utter ruthlessness to defeat the nauseous rump of #Brexit ultras in this broken land who’ll fight like cornered rats for their selfish dream.
I hope for sake of all that’s good that one of you will be that statesman.
