My first #librarian PD day was like this... [a thread]

So, we're meeting at the School of the Arts, but they don't have a library anymore, so instead of meeting in the library, we're meeting in the cafeteria. It was beautiful, but I am directionally challenged, so I got lost...as always...and was like...

We're going to hear some statistics and get hyped, but also sad, but also hyped: 250,000 in ebook check-outs, but schools can opt-out of having library services. There is grant money available, but as people retire, they're not being replaced.

Let's talk performance indicators and evaluations. Yay! (Somebody has been distinguished for a while now.) But, let's keep it real about how students rate librarians they've never met on Student Perception Surveys that are given out in October. YIKES!

After lunch we will learn how to make some very fun visuals and awesome things to help make the case for librarianship! But, the training is also FOUR. HOURS. LONG.

Librarians get hyped about different things--No more late fees! Turns out, the shame folks feel when they can't pay isn't worth it. No more overdue notices! Destiny will send emails (let's hope my kids check theirs). Spine labels get generated quickly and easily!! I'm like...

So...I'm still alive, but this is definitely, most definitely, a different world. #hereforit
