On 8/18/1920, the 19th Amendment of The United States Constitution was ratified, giving women the Constitutional Right to vote.

Our fight for women’s rights was born when 240 women in Seneca Falls, NY met and organized at the first Women’s Rights Convention in the United States on July 19, 1848.

Little did these women of the 1800’s and early 1900’s know that their movement would empower women to seek positions in the fields from which they had been isolated, or that people of color would win their right to vote in 1965.

Women before us organized, protested, paraded, went on hunger strikes, were imprisoned and abused. Most of the Suffragette Leaders died before the Amendment was ratified, not knowing if their female descendants would ever be able to vote.

I felt the Suffragettes’ and Dr. King’s pride as we marched on Washington.

When I got in the bus to go home, I felt their pride as I saw images of sister marches from around the world. I wept, and for the first time since Election Day, I had hope.

I feel their pride when I cast my ballot.

I feel their pride as young women become the most powerful voters in 2018, 170 years later. fivethirtyeight.com/features/why-y…

For over 100 years, tireless, determined, dogged, nonviolent warriors gave time, focus, and even their lives for your right to walk into a voting booth.
Will you honor the women and civil rights activists who made voting rights a reality for all of us?

The right to vote is a precious thing. The power your vote yields is evidenced by so many elections, even this year, where ONE or 100 or 1000 have changed outcomes.

To end with some levity, I encourage all of #TheResistance to remember:
