/ On #IWD2018 we would like to highlight the potential gender bias on the #citizensrights agreement for EU citizens in the UK from December
/ The December #citizensrights agreement defines those who qualify for Settled Status quite narrowly and mainly favours those who study or work full time.
/ those not covered will be carers, stay at home parents and potentially those who work part time and earn below the minimum earning threshold. In short mainly (but not only) women.
/ after students for those who are not in work looking after family/home is the largest group. In the UK out of 2.3m stay at home parents 2.1m are women (91%)
/ women are also more likely to be carers for ill and disabled relatives. 58% of all carers are female.
/ 38% of female carers do not work. 1/5 carers gives up work to care.
/ and women are overall more likely to work part time. 42% of women are working part time and thus, are more likely not to hit any minimum earning threshold the Govt might use to establish effective work.
gov.uk/government/new…
/ Overall though on the surface the #citizensrights agreement does not discriminate against women real life circumstances of female EU citizens will place bigger hurdles in front of them than for men when it comes to applying for Settled Status. /end
