Following news on the #Turpin13 case, one of the names that kept coming up was "The Coalition for Responsible Home Education." Homeschoolers know how much that case received national coverage and with each headline having "Homeschool" stuffed into the title. So who are they?

Rachel Coleman also co-founded Homeschooling's Invisible Children (HIC). "HIC works to catalogue horrific cases of abuse and neglect and raise awareness on this issue while CRHE works to edu and promote the need for adequate safeguards for at-risk children who are homeschooled"

So Rachel Coleman is the co-founder of both the HIC and CRHE. Let's learn more about these orgs. HIC says "We believe - there need to be checks and balances for homeschooled children..." and endorse policy recommendations made by #CRHE. Let's see what those policies are #NoAB2926

While there are many things to be concerned about re: these recommended policies, I've highlighted a couple related to vaccination. #NoAB2926

So in summary: Many of the sources in mainstream media covering the #Turpin13 case refer to this organization as the authority on protecting children from homeschool "abuse" and the direction for policy changes. But who exactly is behind this organization? Besides for Ms Coleman?

California has a K-12 enrollment issue.

According to the Department of Finance:

"Over the next ten years, a DECLINE of 181,000 in total enrollment is projected, if current trends in fertility and migration hold, resulting in total enrollment of 6,040,000 by 2026-27."

So how many #homeschoolers does California have?

According to the organization (#CRHE) pushing for homeschool regulation, it's about 200k. Interestingly, that's about the amount they're expecting enrollment to decline in next 10 yrs.
