This weekend I watched #TheAvengersInfinityWar and it made me think of the fierce & diverse network of real-life heroes coming together to advance the careers of #WomenInMedicine
Theg all have different backgrounds and philosophies and approaches. At times they may even be at odds with one another...
But they all aim to elevate women in medicine. Period.
Here are some of them.
(NB: focusing on folks who have made it their *singular* mission to support women physicians)
There’s @petradMD, who runs the @womeninmedchat each Sunday night, airing provocative, tough & helpful topics week after week
There’s @reshmajagsi, who has become the authoritative voice of #metoomedicine
There’s @darakass, who started a company to support women in medicine, FeminEM.
Its first conference sold out 2 weeks before the event.
Its 2nd conference, #FIX18, with double the slots, sold out 6 months before the event 😳
And it’s got a super cool pod
There’s @LoggheMD, who started the powerful #ILookLikeASurgeon hashtag, which inspired (and continues to inspire) us all to re-envision the “typical” surgeon.
There’s @samya_adnan, @RohiniAshokMD, @drgenngeller, @misstourane, & Lori E, who run @PWDP, which has become a powerhouse of fundraising in support of women physicians running for office
There’s @CA911Dr, founder of @PhysicianMomsGp, >70k members and one of the most active groups on @facebook. It’s as addictive as crack, but nurturing and with good advice
There’s @SashaShillcutt, whose Brave Enough platform serves to empower & inspire women in medicine
There’s @JulieSilverMD, who runs Harvard’s leadership course for women in healthcare, loves to celebrate the accomplishments of women docs, and is the hub of many a woman’s network
There’s @janevandis, the elemental force behind @Equity_Quotient, which aims to track metrics and help healthcare companies maintain a positive workplace culture for a diverse body of physicians
And there’s @AnupamBJena [note: not a woman], whose studies on the salary gap, the promotion gap, and clinical performance of women physicians have opened the door for conversations about gender equity in medicine. Cuz #HeForShe is alive and well.
IMHO, fictional superheroes got nothing on the energy, creativity, generosity & heart of these gals (& guy) / end fangirl rant
(She's the authoritative voice of gender differences in the careers of women in medicine, too, but this is the highlight this year)
