Since we are breaking things down. (Thread) 1. Donda’s House was a 501c3 organization aka a public charity. Not a foundation. Not a physical house. Dr. Donda West’s home was recently purchased as a physical location for programming with the goal to be a safe haven for our kids.
2. Donda’s House has been around since 2012 and launched in 2013 with our initial Got Bars cohort. We provided access to a holistic and comprehensive music composition curriculum. We are not Donda Social. So ask why are you hearing of us now? #criticalthinking
3. The organization is run by Donnie Smith, Exec Dir. who quit her job as an educator to run Donda’s House. She actually has experience in education unlike some toddlers. Echoing Green fellow and highly accomplished Black Woman!
4. The erasure of the efforts of a black woman who poured her heart, money, and countless hours of working with youth in Chicago is par the course for a Kardashian. Predictable even. sad. When y’all weren’t there driving these kids home, paying for their food, working with them
5. The org was supported by volunteers. Who also poured their own money into this organization. Attempts to secure the support and attention of the West/Kardashians was futile. So we continued because the mission was and has always been the kids. So let’s chat performance now.
6. Check the records. We are a public charity and have to file publicly. So with less than $100k avg annual operating budget over the last 5 years, we’ve supported over 300 students. Provided programming for Chicago youth at large. Access to resources for other non-profits
7. But the problem here isn’t the work we did. It’s that we are still for the community and by the community. We didnt host a charity gala for media mentions because we were doing work. We hosted fundraisers. Asked for hell a damn social media mention but nope.
8. Let’s not mention the failure to acknowledge our students when Kanye made a surprise visit @ The Magic Coloring Book but couldn’t make a visit to our classes or showcase at AhhhFest. Hell even Chancellor did that. Maybe u got lost Kanye bc you ain’t been to The Chi in a while
9. Twitterverse saying there was a misappropriation of funds? How? We paid our teachers, access to equipment, this ain’t the Red Cross. Again everything went to these kids! Check the records. Because that’s how NPOs work!
10. So logic. Org needs grants and donors. Kanye’s antics stall that. Mind you we’ve been around for YEARS and y’all just know hearing about us but don’t ask questions about hmmm that’s weird. Kanye, Kim, y’all are socially savvy what gives? Weird right?
11. But again, thanks for the opinions. Apply for grants? Been there. Ask for donations? Done that! Do a fundraiser? Been there too! Ask Kim and Kanye privately? done and done for years. So save what you thought and don’t believe who you think knows when Kimberly don’t know shit.
12. And for those saying people should be fired? How? Most of us are volunteers! But by all means, let us know how you plan to help and where you been all these years. Just say you don’t/won’t care because we are talking abt black & brown kids in ChIcago here.
13. And lastly, that major donation was from the LVMH concert ticket sales. I’ve donated over $200k in pro bono hours (cough not a salary) over the last 5 years so do not speak on our behalf when you don’t even know where to find us despite us giving you the directions Kim 😒
