The #ableg building is beginning to fill up for the Sixties Scoop apology. The smell of a smudge ceremony lingers in the air.
Inside the house, the public gallery is packed with Indigenous folks here for the Sixties Scoop apology. #ableg
Notley begins the Sixties Scoop apology by acknowledging we're on traditional treaty land, and the connection of Metis people with this land. #ableg
We must look above to see survivors, and families, Notley says. Parents lost, families destroyed, cultures shamed and forgotten. "A proud way of life taken away," Notley says. Many of those decisions were made on this floor - and we owe them an apology. #ableg
We see the wrongs of the past with eyes that understand, Notley says. To appreciate the trauma these women and men went through, we needed to speak with them. 800 came forward to share their experiences, and Notley thanks them. #ableg
There are a lot of tears in the gallery right now. #ableg
Notley recounting some of the stories gvt was told by survivors. Many of your faced terrible abuse - physical, sexual, mental, emotional, Notley says. "The horror and tragedy of what was done to these children." #ableg
The Sixties Scoop was an assault on your identity and who you were, Notley says #ableg
One survivor said "I lost my spirit. It was taken away from me." The scars still linger, Notley says #ableg
"When we look at what was done to you, it's no wonder you find it difficult to trust again," Notley says to Sixties Scoop survivors #ableg
Notley asks MLAs to look up, see these survivors and acknowledge them and their families. From me, as premier of Alberta, from all of us here as elected representatives, "we are sorry," Notley says #ableg
Notley: For the loss of love and family, for the frustration and the anger, we are sorry. For this trauma, this pain, this suffering, alienation and sadness, we are sorry. "To all of you, I am sorry." #ableg
Notley is saying "sorry" in many Indigenous languages. This apology comes with a promise, she says, to work with you and ensure your priorities will be honoured #ableg
"Together we can help heal the wounds of the past," Notley says #ableg
Personally I am finding this quite emotionally overwhelming, so I can't even begin to understand how those in the gallery feel right now #ableg
Notley thanks survivors for the opportunity to talk to them about their experiences. All MLAs rise and give their thanks and honour the survivors here today #ableg
A woman sitting in the gallery is crying. A child sitting by her kissed her arm and is giving her a hug #ableg
David Hanson is responding to the apology with his own member's statement about the Sixties Scoop. #ableg
The system is very much broken. We need to fix this now, or we'll be back here in the future addressing another generation, Hanson says. Alberta Party and Liberals to respond to the apology now too. #ableg
Finally, Derek Fildebrandt offers his own apology as an independent MLA. #ableg

And I'm back at the #ucpAGM once again. Today it's all policy resolutions, all the time. I shall be inhaling coffee. Here's my wrap from yesterday, when there were around 3,000 people here. edmontonjournal.com/news/politics/… #ableg
And we start with a point of order. So. Um. Cool. #ucpAGM #ableg
Here’s the pile of governance, special and policy resolutions, by the way. #ucpAGM #ableg
