The main council officers who were working on the @bristolarenal project at Temple Meads left the council to work for YTL on the arena plan at the Brabazon Hangar, something dubbed the @FiltonMegaShed
More on that here: bristolpost.co.uk/news/bristol-n…
The three men involved in the Bristol Arena plan at the Brabazon Hangar are these three.
You can find out more about them here bristolpost.co.uk/news/bristol-n…
After YTL went public with their Brababzon Hangar Arena plans, the firm with the contract to build the arena at Temple Meads offered to do it for a fixed price - which was about £70m less than KPMG now say it will cost
The two former council bosses Barra Mac Ruairí and Robert Orrett, who left the Temple Meads arena project to work for YTL on the Brabazon Arena plan no longer work for YTL, I understand.
Presumably, their job is done. bristolpost.co.uk/news/bristol-n…
Meanwhile, at Temple Meads, now dubbed 'Temple Quarter' the big players are @BristolUni
They are massively investing in the rest of the site, but changed their plans recently to reduce the no. of major buildings from 4 to 3 (on advice from council) bristolpost.co.uk/news/bristol-n…
And there's now a plan for a business & conference centre on Arena Island instead of an arena, that would really suit Bristol Uni much more than a 12,000-seater music venue would.
You can imagine which the Uni would prefer
read more about that here::: bristolpost.co.uk/news/bristol-n…
Barely any of this would be known now were it not for the digging of the excellent @BristolLive political reporter @esmeashcroft
The way of local media now is investigative work like this only happens if people read it, share it, retweet it, engage with it
Do support local media
ps - the KPMG audit of Temple Meads arena plan does not include a costed audit of the Brabazon Hangar arena plan.
Because YTL haven't released their figures publicly.
Finally.
Merchant Venturers are heavily involved in Bristol University.
Bristol Uni are massively investing in Temple Quarter
Alternative to the arena is a conference centre
YTL want arena in Filton
YTL's chair is Colin Skellet, a senior Merchant Venturer merchantventurers.com/author/colinsk…
Finally Finally Finally.
Area around Brabazon hangar also being developed
Those developments would require developers to pay millions for public transport improvements.
YTL deal is they turn Brabazon Hangar into an Arena & taxpayer pays for public transport link improvements
And this is the response to all I’ve just tweeted, from the Mayor’s spin doctor.

Everyone attended what I imagine the prosecution, defence & judge via video link from Westminster assumes would be a formal yet cordial chat about admission of evidence in the case where a police officer is charged with assault.
It was thought that the defence would seek a ruling restricting the evidence admissible in this case.
But he didn’t. Instead, with press: (me from @BristolLive@stevenmorris20@clairehayhurst@PollitaMarch) he said he wanted to ask if some evidence could be heard ‘in camera’
THREAD: The truth about James Dyson moving production abroad to Malaysia because he didn't get planning permission to expand in Malmesbury, Wiltshire, England, Britain.
(Not about Brexit or the EU)
pls RT far and wide. 1/n
So there's loads of commentary about James Dyson (JD) w regards to Brexit etc.
One of the accusations against JD is that he moved production to Malaysia back in the early days.
Many counter that with the story that he was refused planning permission to expand, so moved abroad 2/n
This thread won't be about Brexit & Dyson now, but will tell the truth about what happened back then.
On the day Gordon Brown opened an extension to Dyson factory, which employed 800 making vacuum cleaners (& washing machines), JD unveiled plan for a second factory.
