The animus/resentment between federal Washington and local DC has persisted for decades given lack of voting rights and especially since the federal control board era in the ‘90s.
The question of whether a president would use the Taxation Without Representation license plates on the limo had been viewed as a litmus test: Clinton put them on The Beast, GWB removed them, Obama put them back in second term. Trump uses them but might not even know.

This story from @RoigFranzia is fascinating, for a lot of reasons, including the question of race that jumped out at me, but is not addressed in the piece (or by the protagonists). washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/styl…
The story concerns a photograph from a demonstration in Washington of an anonymous white woman and black man dancing in the Reflecting Pool and the photographers search, 50 years later, to find them. The mystery is half-solved when the woman reads a WaPo account and come forward.
Turns out, she's the daughter of a French woman and a Chinese Hawaiian man who grew up in Hawaii and was raised by her Chinese grandparents. So...is she white or Asian? How does she self-identify and how was she viewed by others -- growing up, in 1968, and now?

Today was third time I’ve been traveling on AF1 with a president during a mass shooting that gained national media attention.
First was 2012 Aurora, Colo., movie theater massacre when Obama was campaigning in Florida. Obama cut campaigning short, addressed crowd somberly and flew to DC and convened meeting at WH. washingtonpost.com/politics/in-a-…
Second time was the 2nd Ft. Hood shooting in 2014 when Obama was raising money in Chicago. After private fundraiser, aides cleared the room, brought in lectern and flag and Obama made a statement to press pool, then continued on to another fundraiser washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/w…

Sheriff’s deputy says 5,800 in crowd, per @JenniferJJacobs . (Scheels Arena capacity listed at 6,000. Some seats on stage side not available tonight but floor standing room packed.)
Sizable number or protesters outside. Signs included “Deport Trump,” “Not My Fuhrer” and “It’s Mueller Time.” Follow my colleague @wpjenna who is spending the evening with the protesters outside the arena.

On press access in China: today was not the first time that the Chinese did not allow questions in bilat with US president. In '09, Hu Jintao did not allow questions in a "joint press statement" with Obama. #thread
The Obama WH was ultimately embarrassed and looked weak. Years later aides brought up to me how burned they felt by @helenecooper story in which she called visit "minutely stage-managed" by Chinese.
Obama learned: never again in three successive summits with Chinese leaders did they not successfully demand Hu or Xi take a question, incl in '14 trip to Beijing. WH reporters saw aides negotiating intensely on that trip.
