First of all, the matured ovaries of any plant is what develops into a fruit. Pepper, of course, is one of them.
Therefore, botanically, any kind of pepper is fruit.
The reason they are considered vegetables in stores is due to how imported vegetables were taxed.
In 1893, the supreme court made the decision on the classification of what we now call fruits and vegetables.
The decision was made on when we would eat them.
Then, in 1893, for the purpose of taxing, fruits did not have any tax applied to them but all imported vegetables did.
The classification basis goes thus ; fruits were considered to be eaten after a meal as desserts and vegetables were anything that could be eaten during the meal.
That is why today , many grocery stores tag pepper, tomatoes and many other garden crops to be vegetables when in botanical sense they are actually fruits.
So the next time you are in the garden or store, know that any crop that is a result of flower (i.e pepper, tomatoes, cucumber, melon, okra, etc.) are fruits.
And any crop that are part of a plant (i.e carrots are roots, lettuce are leaves, ewedu, uguw) are vegetables .
Its the reason we need a friend to advice ( which is actually reminding ) us when we have issues . And then we turn that same advice back to that same friend when he has same issues too.
The reason you have to listen to that podcast or Ted talk over and over again . Why ? Because we forget !
