"Today’s...policy [extends] yesterday’s family detention." In PA @aldea_pjc & @shutownberks work to support people imprisoned in and abolish "family detention centers." The "DHS Kidnapping policy" escalates existing imprisonment policies implemented to "deter" migration. (thread)

One of the major migrant family prison camps is in Berks County, PA. This camp was one of three locations used by ICE's effort, begun in the prior administration, "to set an example and prevent a recurrence of the 2014 border crisis" (language from WAPost) goo.gl/Rbkm51
The kidnappings policy=a prison abolition issue. Fake justifications for child "separation" relate to the longstanding (@queermigrations has good work on the history) practice of imprisoning migrants, refugees, & asylum seekers. Imprisoning families *together* is *also* horrific.
So be careful about calls for more facilities or better staff. Be careful about suggesting–even implicitly–that we should oppose imprisoning migrants in camps only in context of child separation and family imprisonment (cf. Erica Meiners' For the Children goo.gl/fUT5zG)
As @KwameHolmes and @MaggieShelledy have said recently, this is not a new example of past policy. We have racist imprisonment of families *& individuals* right now. We torture pregnant mothers, and children, *and adults who aren't pregnant* through solitary confinement right now.
So folks in PA, again: we need to support organizations and coalitions like @aldea_pjc and @shutdownberks. But also support organizations like @AbolitionistLC, "organized for the purpose of abolishing class and race based mass incarceration" at the border & throughout the U.S.
