"Danza Negra," or "Black Dance" is one of Masaya's oldest traditions. The tune is one of the more somber, hauntingly beautiful compositions in Nicaragua's folklore. Here, the subdued choreography speaks volumes of grief #SOSNicaragua#GritoPorNicaragua
For the martyred youth of Masaya, for the martyrs of all Nicaragua.
I don't know what was the original significance of la Danza Negra, but after yesterday's massacre in Masaya, watching this particular choreography brings to mind an allegory of death and ghosts that walk beside their mourners, of meeting in the afterlife.
It left a deep impression upon me today. I feel spent. I am full of grief, full of fear, & anger that rises more with each passing day. I love these young people whom I've never met. I cry and pray for them daily, I cannot watch them be murdered like this. Someone do something!😞
