🚨 THREAD: President Trump has signed an executive order mandating that families be jailed by the U.S. Departments of Homeland Security or Defense. This order would have the effect of jailing, for months or even years, immigrant families seeking safety in the U.S. 1/
.@MarielenaNILC: "The Trump administration has created a crisis and committed horrific human rights abuses by separating children from their parents at the border." 2/ #ProtectFamilies
@MarielenaNILC .@MarielenaNILC: "Clearly on the defense, today it used a political sleight of hand to try to placate Americans who have been rightly outraged by their government’s repugnant policies, including separating children and babies from their parents and housing them in cages." 3/
@MarielenaNILC 🚨 Jailing families is not an acceptable solution to putting children in cages. The best — and safest — place for these children is with their families and in their communities. The Trump administration pretends that alternatives to detention don’t exist. This is false. 4/

BREAKING: President Trump just announced a devastating new proposed regulation that would harm countless immigrant families & all of our nation's communities. The adjustments to "Public Charge" would rig our immigration system so green cards would only go to the highest bidder 1/
This is a regulatory backdoor approach to separate more families. We’ve seen this before when Trump attempted to enact his draconian agenda of restricting legal immigration through Congress — but failed. 2/ #ProtectFamilies
The lead-up to this policy is already producing a damaging chilling effect. Families are foregoing critical, basic needs to stay healthy and thrive for fear of being shut out of the immigration process. politi.co/2Q4nVNZ 3/ #ProtectFamilies

DACA UPDATE: DC district court partially stayed a previous order to fully reinstate #DACA. This means that USCIS will not accept first time applications or advance parole for now. DACA renewals are still being accepted. 📣 1/
Three federal courts that have now said that the Trump administration’s termination of DACA was wrong. 2/ #ProtectDreamers
This development in the DC case eliminates Texas’ explanation for why they need an immediate halt to #DACA renewals. Simply put: they have no real argument. 3/

BREAKING: Tonight, we’ve been presented with another troubling moment in America. President Trump has nominated Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court. This nomination, if left unchallenged, will weaken the integrity of our democracy. Here’s #WhatsAtStake 1/
"Judge Kavanaugh’s record makes it clear that he cannot be entrusted to uphold the awesome responsibility to be independent, open-minded, and to fairly weigh critical legal questions that have broad and significant impact on the lives of all who call the US home." —@MarielenaNILC
@MarielenaNILC .@MarielenaNILC: "Kavanaugh’s legal writings and recent dissents speak for themselves: he thinks immigrant communities should be Constitution-free zones, and that reproductive justice should be curtailed." #SCOTUSPick

NEWS: The federal district court in DC has just found @realDonaldTrump’s termination of #DACA unlawful. Here's what the decision means ↓ 1/
The court is ordering the #Trump administration to accept — for the first time since the #DACA rescission was announced in September — *new* applications from DACA-eligible immigrant youth, BUT NOT IMMEDIATELY. 2/
The court is giving the Trump administration 90 days to explain why they ended #DACA, which the administration has failed to do thus far. 3/
