Last year as part of the annual Yeats Festival @TreadSoftlyFest in #Sligo friends & I led a historical walking tour 'Threads of the Town', looking at the various textile industries & businesses that had thrived there over the past century. (@orlaffitz at the former Linen Mill.) 
Joseph Martin @jmartintailor invited us into his atelier & store & talked about the business of modern tailoring. It has been a family business in Sligo since 1895 & continues to thrive despite changing tastes but quality continues to be the chief concern. josephmartin.ie

In the Sligo County Museum we looked at a variety of material culture items held there, including an apron worn by Countess Markievicz during her imprisonment at Holloway Jail. The museum is small but packs a punch - with a variety of medieval and modern memorabilia on display.
The curator of the Sligo County Museum loaned us pieces of lace & crochet that were made by hand in Sligo in the 19th-century for temporary display. The idea of Sligo lace is a distant memory! Beautiful examples of Irish lace & handiwork - I hope we can display these again soon!
For 'Threads of the Town' held to coincide with the Lily and Lolly Craftfest 2017 local fashion historian @rua_ruth led a tour of #Sligo exploring the businesses of the past and present that supported local and national cottage craft industries.
The highlight of our tour was a visit to Mr Mullaney of @mullbros. A gentleman in every sense of the word. Mullaney Bros was established in 1909 & over the decades many people will have been expertly attended to by Mr Mullaney. He once helped me chose a hat & I won't forget it!
