I'm an aging, straight, white male with a good-paying job. I have good benefits from that job,

I support things like civil rights and voting rights and healthcare and women's rights, even though most of these things don't directly affect me.

If I only supported things that affect me, that would be selfish and inhumane,

I could say guys like me should support these things, because if the rights of others could be taken away, then my rights could be taken away too.

But that's not why I support these things.

I could say guys like me should support these things, because people we love could otherwise be hurt--the women in our lives, the people who aren't straight or white, the people who are less fortunate economically.

I support voting rights and women's rights and LGBTQ rights and universal healthcare and environmental regulation and good education and rights for immigrant and minority religions all the other liberal causes--

because I'm a moral human being.

To oppose these things is to deny one's own humanity. To oppose liberal, Democratic causes is to shred one's own soul. To *not* stand up for others is to commit the most vile of sins against whatever you believe is god, and whatever you believe is good.
