It seems clear that this is a political play by @hydroquebec and @LiberalQuebec to stifle small businesses and finalize deals with Asian giants. There is no crisis to manage for contractors asking for 2MW and less.
The creation of specific categories of consumers was discouraged by @hydroquebec in 2017, which proposed rather to stick to the proportion of energy demands, on a case by case basis.
Ironically, @hydroquebec recognizes that applications can be split up. Yet the KPMG report filed by H-Q quotes a decreasing number of jobs / MW. Would it not be desirable to cut these applications for greater economic benefits for Quebec?
Always following this same splitting admission, is it not possible that the 2000MW applicants also made several additional requests for 1000, 500, 250, ... MW?
As a reminder, the #Bitcoin network consumes +/- 4000MW worldwide. Assuming we only use the most efficient devices, @HalongMining, @Inno_Miner and @BitfuryGroup, we would use ~ 2600MW globally.
There is definitely an eel under rock. We must doubt the seriousness of a request for 2000MW at best, be wary at worst. Does @hydroquebec lie to us or is an actor about to destroy #Bitcoin?
Declaring nothing about its economic activities or the number of employees in Quebec, Equipement Bitmain was registered in Quebec on June 14th exactly one week after the Quebec Minister of Energy announced a moratorium on new cryptographic projects.
