Many of us, while accomplished athletes in our sport, were living away from home for the first time. College is a time of great personal growth, responsibility & awareness. As athletes we encountered many different staffers, besides teachers and administrators.
Athletes had to attend study halls with proctors and other staff to make sure we maintained grades and our athletic status. We were constantly around other adults & staff whom we were told were there to help us succeed and compete.
If we succeeded, the university succeeded.
In addition to constant presence of study hall staff w/tutors for every subject, there were an array of counselors, team doctors, physical therapists, psychologists and nutritionists. There were physicals, weigh-ins, body fat analysis, psychological support, mentoring...
Our weight rooms, lockers & showers were easily accessible to coaches, PT, doctors & other adult staff. It was like an open door..male staff would waltz thru the girls locker rooms. It felt sleezy and slimey but as elite athletes, we were accustomed to people ogling our bodies.
I am lucky. I was grossed out that men would walk thru our locker room but I just thought “creepy old men”...but no one ever violated me. I cannot imagine how damaging it would’ve been if one of these adults, that I trusted, had sexually assaulted me.
Adding to that horror and violation of trust, when these young athletes (boys) told Jim Jordan about sexually inappropriate behavior by this team doctor, for him to:
#1) not report abuse
and now
#2) deny any knowledge of abuse he was clearly aware of
MAKES ME SICK.
Jim Jordan is lying
Jim Jordan aided & abetted a sexual predator
Jim Jordan chose to allow this abuse to continue
Now middle-aged men, these victims have found their voice & bravely spoken out. Their stories must be heard
Do you remember who you were & how you spent your time before Trump?
I slept soundly at night knowing our country was in the hands of an intelligent, honorable, capable President. I never worried about what our President would say or do in the face of national tragedy or danger
It wasn’t always puppies and rainbows but I never worried about our relationship with our allies or our position in NATO or our commitment to clean energy and acceptance of climate change.
I never went to bed at night worried about what our President might tweet or do that would endanger national security or align the United States with hostile and dangerous foreign powers.
I honestly thought (regardless of 2A, religion, abortion issues), that colluding & conspiring with a hostile foreign government and a dictator who regularly chooses murder over democracy, would sink Trump and cause the GOP to act.
That the appointments of inept, corrupt & complicit cabinet members who also committed perjury, would cause even a Republican Congress was to take notice and action.
That a “president” who cannot speak, spell or engage appropriately with world leaders/American allies would not cause concern & outrage with the vast majority of Americans and Congress.
