The #InstituteofEminence are important for the country. We have 800 univ, but not a single university in top 100 or even 200 in the world ranking. Today's decision will help achieve this.

Improving ranking needs sustained planning, complete freedom & public institutes getting public funding. This is the commitment of @narendramodi govt to not to interfere but to allow institute to grow the way they should grow.

This decision is a landmark decision for following reasons -This was never thought off & tried; it is more than a graded autonomy, it is really a full autonomy to the institutes; the institutes can take their own decisions.

While today's decision gives virtually full autonomy, it will also ensure that no student will be denied opportunity of education with various measures like scholarships, interest waiver, fee waiver and ensure all equity principles.

#IITs have already achieved 14% of girl student participation, an increase from 8% two years ago.
I am sure this will succeed and more institutes will be recognised as Institutes of Eminence in the future.

Congratulations to @iiscbangalore, which has been our real pride. This inst has been ranked in world ranking. It has the scope to improve further.Though it is a public sector inst, it is being granted full autonomy to become really world class inst & find out new opportunities.

Congratulations to @iitbombay & IITDelhi. These are two premier institutes which will also receive government funding because public sector institutes which are granted status of Institutes of Eminence will get govt grant of Rs 1000 crore in next five years. #InstituteofEminence

This will help these institutes to grow rapidly to a scale and improve quality and add new courses. Also do whatever is needed to become world class institutions.
