King Solomon's temple, exquisitely planned and provided for by his father king David, was finally destroyed by king Nebuchadnezzar after Judah went into captivity to Babylon.
The second temple was built after the Jews' return from the Babylonian captivity by the decree of #CyrusTheGreat of #Persia. This temple was ultimately known as Herod's temple, and was destroyed by the Romans in 70 A.D. (C.E.).
The Lord Jesus prophesied of the total destruction of Herod's temple:
Matthew 24:2 And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
Since that Pentecost following Christ's ascension has been the age of grace: the gospel has been given out throughout the world, beginning in Jerusalem, as the Lord Jesus commanded.
Matthew 28:20 ...lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world [the age]....
The rapture of the church concludes the age of grace.
The world will look to Satan's man, Antichrist. The false religious organization left behind will be hated and ultimately destroyed.
Antichrist will claim to be God and demand that the world worship him.
In the temple.
2 Thessalonians 2:4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
Daniel 11:45 ...yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.
The visible, physical return of the Lord Jesus Christ to the earth ends the career of the Satan's man.
Antichrist, and the false prophet who promoted him, will be the first to be cast into the lake of fire.
Daniel 12:1 ...there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
144,000 sealed from the tribes of Israel will be preaching.
Daniel 12:2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
At Christ's return, Old Testament saints are raised, and Tribulation saints.
At the Judgment, all the lost of the ages are raised.
JESUS is the Victor.
Someday, not only will the Jews be able to pray and worship on the Temple Mount, there will be a Temple: "for Mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people" (Isaiah 56:7).
Jerusalem is where the whole world will come to worship the Lord Jesus Christ, "who is the blessed and only Potentate" (1 Timothy 6:15).
Revelation 19:16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
So take heart, and believe the gospel; trust in this Jesus:
Luke 21:28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.
Our righteousness before God must be His righteousness, not our own, or it is not of faith:
"For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God" (Romans 10:3).
How GOD sees it when moral, religious people use the Bible to justify themselves APART from faith in the Lord Jesus Christ:
Jesus to the religious leaders: “[Ye] Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of Me” (John 5:39).
