Remember that amazing yacht Trump once owned? Know who he bought it from? Or who he sold it to? A few little tidbits of info....#TrumpYacht
2) 1980 - The 86-meter yacht, the 8th largest in the world, named “Nabila” was delivered by to Saudi billionaire businessman AND ARMS DEALER, Adnan Khashoggi at a cost of $100 million*
3) “Nabila’s guests were Arab princes as well as European and American businessman of all descriptions. Ensconced in the various suites, they used the 150 telephones and the satellite communications system to arrange arms sales and commodities trades.”
4) “When contracts were ready to be signed, the yacht could quickly slip into international waters, where sovereign restrictions on business transactions do not apply. On many occasions, several deals were conducted simultaneously, in different suites.”
5) 1987 Khashoggi had “financial problems” so the Sultan of Brunei took possession of the yacht to cover one of Khashoggi's loans.
The Sultan of Brunei then sold it to Donald Trump for $29 million, even though there were higher offers.
6) 12/2/1987 Trump on Letterman
Most sources say the original cost of the yacht was $100 mil. Trump says $200 mil. Jonathan Beckett, CEO of Burgess, the broker that arranged the sale to Trump says, ““No-one really knows what she originally cost.”
7) 1988 Trump said he got a $1 million discount for renaming the boat “Trump Princess” and not calling it Nabila, the name of Khashoggi's daughter. After purchasing, he had it refitted by the Holland-based company, Amels for between $8.5-10 million*
9) In June 1989 Trump announced he would build a larger yacht, “something in excess of 400 feet long to 500 feet" and said he was accepting bids from yacht builders for this project. Amels, then owned by a group of 4 British investors, secured the deal for Trump Princess II.
10) In 1990 Trump cancelled the construction of Trump Princess II.
May 1990 he bought Amels Makkum all together.
Some say the shipyard was sold due to the owner's “financial problems” which resulted from Trump canceling the construction of the Trump Princess II.
11) “Others say the decision with Trump’s alleged less-than-ideal financial situation at the time with his hotel and casino businesses facing bankruptcy.”
So how did he buy Amels if his finances were deteriorating? 🤷🏻♀️
12) September 1990 Trump sold Amels Makkum to American businessman, Peter Kutell due to his “financial problems.”
Trump Princess was put up for sale.
All work on the Trump Princess II stopped.
13) 1991 Trump Princess was sold to Saudi businessman Prince Al-Waleed for $20 million who renamed the yacht to Kingdom 5KR.
14) “In 2001, the hull for Trump Princess II allegedly remained at the Amels Makkum facility until when it was eventually removed. It’s unclear at what stage of construction the project was and what happened to it since.”
15) “The designs, however, remain and today give us an idea of what certainly could have been one of the coolest yachts in the world.”
Who even cares about this honestly?
16) “Previously one of the largest yachts afloat, the ship now pales in comparison to the 500-foot giants currently commissioned by many billionaires”...
I know of one alleged “billionaire” who doesn’t own one. Poor guy. So unfair. 👋🏻 🛳
