"How?"
She went on to narrate.
She was in the Kitchen, Had no idea neighbour had lured baby out. She innocently went cos he is Bro X
Next thing she knew baby ran in to narrate the experience in her own words. Neighbours are alerted, boy is queried, owns up, etc.
"Where is he?
I noticed the other woman looked distraught.
So I channelled the question to her.
"He is at home. He is my son. And I have punished him. He won't try it again. He is just 15, He doesn't know what he is doing"
Nice.
Next thing she said made me excuse her from my clinic #DrZobo
"I just want to confirm if she has infection,at least, let it be treated. At least, thank God he said he 'did' just small and came out.
It has not gotten to Police case. These are children"
And it was at that moment of bending to examine her that I received the most defining slap of my past decade
Next she grabbed the galipot containing swabs I was using to clean her and threatened to smash my head if I continued. She wouldn't even let any male Doc near her #DrZobo
"What happened", I asked Nma
"He lift his knicker. He lick my thing. Then he goan put his... thing (whispered), in my... thing (whispered). Then I told my mummy"
I held back tears. Her hymen was missing, she was bruised, and all the culprit's mum's concern was infection.
Smh.
I had a deep conversation with her mother, praised her for training her daughter enough to come to her with such info despite being threatened.
Cautioned and counselled her on the dangers of 'Unkuus and Antys', cos even male children get abused.
I also talked with Nma. #DrZobo
To the mother of the Culprit I said,
"Your son needs to come so we can question him and know the extent of what he did. I won't be quick to throw blames at you.
But you should never make excuses for your son's wrong, being a minor doesn't make his act less punishable by law"🤷
Nma's case is just one of the many abuse cases that troop into the Children's ER or clinic.
And what baffles me is how readily parents are ready to try to patch the matter.
In Nma's eyes, I saw a bruised woman. And I fear for her.
She will need Therapy, love and Prayers.
Dear parents, sex education is underrated.
Let them know their body parts. Let them know that no one is permitted to touch them there regardless of ties, blood or not.
Be approachable.
Train and discipline your children, Abusers of today were once children of yesterday. #DrZobo
Also, greater %age of abusers remain Family, friends and people who are close to you.
Abuse cases are under reported.
If you are old enough to hold up an erection and guide into a hole, you are old enough to face the law, maybe in varying degrees.
Rape is beyond the physical
Finally, Nma's parents want justice for their 3 year old daughter regardless.
A fellow parent 'wisely' said, at least she is a small girl o, thank God, imagine if she was grown, we will also be worrying about pregnancy. #ThisIsNigeria where we look on the 'brighter side' #DrZobo
What would you do as Nma's parents?
A young boy clever enough to rape a 3 year old, clean her up with tissue, cleaned himself and threatened to wound her if she told anyone.
For Unkus and Aunties on this table, fall and break your manhood.🙏 #SipsZobo #DrZobo#Facts&Fiction

A short story FOR EVERY WOMAN.
It was 6am when she was brought in dead.
She had been Pushing and bleeding for hrs in a 'Maternity'. 1st Pregnancy.
Her husband was inconsolable. He rolled from one end of the compound to the other.
Our hearts were broken.
1 hour later... #DrZobo
Dr Z walked out the hospital still reeling from the aftermath of the incident.
Maternal Mortality from Pennywise causes.
Hmm
Then she saw him.
In a bar just across. He was on his 3rd beer.
And no, he had no semblance with the Inconsolable 'Roller coaster' from 1 hr ago #DrZobo
Then he saw her.
As if in reply to unasked questions, he started;
“Doc, Ka awachienu uwa George. Onwuola nu. She is gone. Life goes on.
I dey wait ambulance, I say make I take one bottle for the road.”
He sipped.
She wasn’t even cold yet.
Z nodded in condolence.
He spoke #DrZobo
Prevention 1) By Early Vaccination against Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), best before sexual exposure. Ages 9-26👌.
Vaccinate your girl child. Dear young women you too.
Note: Boys also benefit from HPV vaccination as it prevents them from Genital warts and Penile Cancer #DrZobo
2) Screening. Cervical Screening for the sexually exposed.
-Pap Smear: takes 3 mins
- VIA (Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid) takes only 1 min
-HPV testing to make sure the strains are not in you already. #DrZobo #SmearIt #CervicalCancer
"So Dr, you want to disvirgin my 17yr old Daughter?"
The way she put it.🙄
"Not really Ma, to treat, we have to break her Hymen. She has IMPERFORATE HYMEN. That's why she hasn't menstruated. Absence of Hymen doesn't make her less a virgin, some are born w/o it🤷"
THREAD #DrZobo
Mum did not look satisfied.
Her daughter was 17 and had never menstruated. Had never discharged or ovulated.
Did she have monthly cramps? Yes.
She also had a mass just below her abdomen which was burning.
Scan showed a fluid like collection.
Guess what it was.... #DrZobo
You guessed right.
"Madam, on examination, we discovered your daughter has an imperforate hymen. This means the hymen is blocking the vagina completely and so, nothing coming from up can come down, including her menses and Ovulation discharge, hence the fluid collection #DrZobo
"Help Doc, My child is dying"
"What happened?"
"Convulsion"
What have you done so far?
"Everything o! I gave him palm kernel oil, I put spoon in his mouth, I gave anointing oil, even river Jordan water"
Me: "Nice, Science student. You just did everything to kill him"
About Convulsions,
It is scary to see your child have one, but note that children don't die from convulsions...
They instead die from aspiration of all the substances and items you put in their mouth.
Here's what you should do while you await medical attention. #TipTuesday
Place your child on the floor on his or her side and clear away objects that are in close proximity.
Loosen tight clothing surrounding the head or neck.
Don't put anything in your child's mouth or try to stop the convulsion unless your pediatrician has told you what to do.
