While we wait for #HELSINKI2018 to finish, here's a couple of remarks inspired by the #TrumpPutin meeting.
1. Finland is not a neutral country. We chose our side when we joined European Union in 1995. Finland chose to be on the side of #humanrights, #democracy, #ruleoflaw and multilateral world order. Finnish foreign policy is based on promoting and defending these values.
2. Women's rights are human rights. We believe the world would be a better place for everyone if #WomensRights and girls' rights would be recognised and respected all around the world.
3. We believe that #climatechange is not just an environmental problem, it is also a security threat. It makes people leave their homes and seek for better living conditions somewhere else. If we want to keep our planet as we know it, we need to do something about it now.
4. We believe that the world needs more #multilateralism and #internationallaw, not less. The current order is far from perfect, but the solution is not to walk away from it but to fix it. Let's make #UN#WTO and others great again together.
5. Today's meeting is worthwhile, if the presidents can make progress on global security issues. For example, concrete steps in reducing military tensions in Europe's neighbourhoods and in implementing #Minskagreement would be welcome.
6. I wish the presidents have a fruitful and constructive meeting in #Helsinki. Finland is happy to host and take care of the arrangements, but the outcome of #HELSINKI2018 is up to them.
