#SheRa , #ThundercatsRoar, #DragonBallSuperMovie and #borutoEpisode65

Something interesting the last several days as SDCC - Toonami announced that Boruto will be coming, just as episode 65 aired and Broly becomes canon in Dragon Ball.

But what does this have to do with SheRa?

It turns out that all the promises from that teaser poster that was shown weeks ago, became another major disappointment. And as you guessed people got mad about how she-ra looks too much like a boy and the whole nine years. But she-ra wasnt even considered as good as He-Man

So what gives?
Plenty.

Its hatred, its acceptance of lies, its calarts, and what have you - but really its family and friendship and how it effects the way you respect your audience even when your art is bad!

You have to realize that the animation business in TV already have massive deficiencies with keeping audiences. Many in this country despite Theatrical animation massive success still consider animation a childs thing. And even when the whole toy industry has collapsed twice (!?)

The major IP holders of each of these franchises dont understand how much as been lost by mismanagement of those that aired the franchises and how each IP holder couldnt get over the hump in this country of getting any sort of air time outside of anti-drug issues.

so what do we have now?
Chaos.
This is why what happened since the E/I laws passed. The very thing meant to limit advertising to kids failed so miserably it is the biggest albatross hanging over the FCC's neck for one example.

The second one was the rise of anime in the states. Knowing that all of the American IP's for kids couldn't compete because they were hamstrung by the E/I laws and the questionable choices these companies did with the toy sales and what was happening with theatrical with 2d/3d.

What made things worse is that the same things that effected other colleges also effected CalArts. Technology has always been apart of schooling, but the way the internet in the last 20 years was handled both in its social and academic contexts left a lot to be desired.

You also have a diminishing of art in those same 20 years, and those that became apart of that art world became gatekeepers for the wrong damn reasons and kept their power on a near illegal (better yet unethical) basis.

But it wasnt so much the same in Japan. Yes the same problems were there. But there were, as part of the overall culture there a respect of the past and where one comes from, the MA as Miyazaki mentioned in a interview some time back.

Episode 65 of Boruto showed the major problem a lot of the American animated IP both old and new suffer. These episodes themes cannot work and never work in any of the new itterations of the shows i mentioned plus Voltron's new iteration, Steven Universe and all the rest.

Boruto calls out to the competition (Dragon Ball Super, JoJo season 4), its past series (Naruto) and what the series was inspired by, and how we got to this point in the narrative. It is not possible in the American series.

The only show that can reach this level, Ironically is Rick and Morty. Episode 7 of season 3 can be seen in the context of what happened with the rest of the animation world in the united states since 1991.

The people (mostly women) who say She-Ra is just a kids show, same thing with Thundercats Roar, makes the same horrendous argument Saban and others did back in the mid 80's and others did before - making of mockery of June Foray's memory of not making Animation only a kids thing.

The fact that women are forgetting how much they owe their very existence in this business to June Foray, spitting on her blessed grave with the very detritus, this lie that She-Ra is just for kids? When the original show was ment for both the females, their mothers and so on?

But what can you expect from a industry that allows gangsters steal their wages, the same gangsters grope their female workers, the same talent not sure when their next check going to come, the lack of toy sales and the corruption Hasbro and Mattel has done for 15 - 20 YEARS?

But the most fucked up thing about it - because these executives who worked in the industry for years, are now at the top of these major corporations, and they protect their own, and when you see the whole medium of Anime as a threat you want to take it down a peg.

Instead of raising your level of work with your own IP, you use your own marketing firms to create cynical bullshit lies about that medium. Its never as good, Women look like women... Too Violent there, for this time slot, too sexy there, to dark for the time slot there.

Then, these hollywood marketing firms create something like a netflix of anime - or better yet 2 or 3 sites from colleges that those that created these illegal sites would have been suspended and never allowed back in.

You can guess the rest of the story. And thats where we are. And thats how really fucked up all this all is.
