A short important thread on DACA: 1- Those who have DACA, go ahead & put in your renewal application even if your status doesn’t expire in 150 days. USCIS will accept the renewal application for NOW. 2. As of Aug. 8 there could be a 🛑 stop on all renewals from a fed judge in TX.
On August 8, 2018, there will be a preliminary injunction hearing in Texas v. Nielsen (U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas – Judge Hanen).
Following the hearing, Judge Hanen will decide whether to issue a preliminary injunction against the DACA program, possibly ordering USCIS to stop accepting DACA applications, including applications for renewal. So advice is: RENEW NOW! #DACA#DREAMERS

Federal Judge orders full restart of DACA program - The restart won’t be immediate. U.S. District Judge John Bates said the order would be delayed until Aug. 23 to allow the government to appeal. apple.news/ADbtC1iiDTMOLC…
In a 25-page opinion Friday, Bates, an appointee of former President George W. Bush, rejected the administration’s argument that the original decision to end DACA remained sound. #DACA
If Friday’s ruling goes into effect later this month, the administration will be required to accept new applications from people who meet DACA’s eligibility requirements.
While a lot of focus is on families separated, & rightfully so; there is a whole lot happening in other arenas in immigration. In Texas, those who file to become US Citizens have to wait 18 months to get an interview. The wait is the longest & prevents new citizens from voting.
Former Congresswoman Elizabeth Holtzman, a drafter of the Refugee Act of 1980, resigns from the Homeland Security Advisory Committee. This is a powerful read:
"The Refugee Act was adopted against the background of the Holocaust, in which the US took only a tiny handful of refugees from the Nazis, leaving untold numbers to perish at their hands. The Act was intended to prevent any repetition of that.....
There was a time when the US welcomed refugees. We readily accepted and absorbed more than 600,000 refugees from Cuba, 750,000 refugees from Vietnam, and more than 100,000 Jews from the Soviet Union....
