I want to take back you guys to one of the most mind boggling periods I saw on social media.

The most insane agitprop during the last five years was when the moratorium on capital punishment was taken back.

ISPR convinced the people that civilian rulers were too scared, too chickenshit & just incapable of executing people. Pakistan, a state that had executed around 5,000 people, hundreds of them innocent no doubt, was now in need of the Army, because civilians weren't "man enough"

"Nawaz Sharif is afraid of blowback"
"TTP has threatened Sharifs if they hang terrorists"
"Only the Army can do it"

For days, TV and social media were completely occupied by whipped up bloodlust and imagined scenarios. Only the Army was brave enough to hang people.

Ultimately, a most inhumane practice is resumed. It's made sure that media repeats that #ThankYou alone had it all done. All the civilians were shaking in their boots, but #ThankYou prevailed. Thank You Mr #ThankYou. Only you can save us all.

TV channels parrot out that soldiers did the hanging, not the executioners at Adiala who had hung hundreds before. Even the جلاد was not brave enough anymore. Once again, the army has to do everybody's job. The on,y institution steps up.

TV channels are made to air a hanging video simultaneously. Nobody cares for psychological and traumatic impact.

Only the most insane of minds would think a HD snuff video would work for national catharsis, but the duffers are incharge after all.

Pakistan goes back to executing hundreds annually. The executioners are not afraid anymore, not incompetent anymore. There aren't anymore WhatsApp forwards on who lacks the will or ability to execute and who else but the Army needs to step up.

I oppose capital punishment in all cases, but even outside of that frame, it was the most insane thing I ever saw. In a matter of days, this took over the entire media landscape and the majority of people pied piper-ed to Gen Goebbels' talking points.

People made to outrage on absolutely, completely manufactured storylines, devoid of any reality and thank their ultimate manufactured saviour for saving them from non-existent demons and incompetent civilians.
