With the devastating news that FreeBSD donations have dropped roughly in half compared to 2017 - which already failed to meet their target for 2017 - taking a look at the some informal data about the project's online presence.

The lack of any interest and activity in social media about FreeBSD is shocking. This is a project that almost no one has any interest in.

The number of tweets about FreeBSD each day is tiny. And almost all of those tweets get little to no responses.

A couple years ago there was a huge amount of interest from the Linux community looking to escape the systemd fiasco to FreeBSD. That interest has completely disappeared.

The Linux community is making progress with routing around the systemd cancer and the distros that aren't infected with the technolgical turd that is systemd are rapidly growing.

And the two biggest reasons Linux users and developers were looking to escape the systemd fiasco for FreeBSD - ZFS and DTrace - are now available in Linux. There no longer is any reason for a Linux user or developer to switch to FreeBSD.

On top of the lack of any unique technology to attract Linux users is the growing performance gap being demonstrated by Linux systems over FreeBSD.

Is should be obvious why the tiny group of toxic SJWs who hijacked FreeBSD were so desperate to silence and ban anyone who warned about the lunatic SJW Code of Conduct fiasco destroying the project's financial and developer support.

Toxic SJWs hijacking the project, lunatic CoCs forced upon the community, Core members of project acting like assholes at BSDCan18 for the entire open source world to see, and the infamous douchebag FreeBSD forum moderators frantically banning and censoring.

No one but the most delusional SJWs can be surprised the FreeBSD death spiral. Who would waste money donating to such a dying project. Who would waste time developing for such a project?

The FreeBSD development community is already at or below the viable level for a mainstream open source operating system. The forums and social media posts are filled with people who can't get things to work on FreeBSD. The manpower isn't there.

So any hope of the talented members of FreeBSD forking the project with an attempt to restore the ruined reputation FreeBSD now has in the eyes of the wider open source world just aren't feasible.

As FreeBSD fades into irrelevance with few other than the small group of hateful and toxic SJWs, the only good that will come from the death of the project is as a lesson for other open source projects.

The talented FreeBSD developers who sat in silence while these hateful ideologues hijacked the project have no one but themselves to blame. The time to raise their voices is long past. The damage is done and irreparable.
