Hello everyone, it’s your favourite online doctor here.
Hope you had a nice day so far?

Today we will talk about #SmellyFeet.
It will hopefully be a short thread on the most important things you need to know about this issue.

1/
What is #SmellyFeet?
What causes #SmellyFeet?
What can you do about #SmellyFeet?

2/
If you have any questions or contributions regarding this topic, simply reply to these tweets or use the hashtag #SmellyFeet and I will answer the question or acknowledge the contribution as quick as possible.

3/
So what is #SmellyFeet?

It is referred to as Bromodosis.
That’s the medical term.

But it basically refers to having feet which have a very bad smell, this can be mild and may be very severe.

Smelly feet can be so severe that it starts to affects the self esteem of the person.
As a matter of fact, #SmellyFeet can be so bad that the owner of the feet could be mistaken for a dead body.

This happened in Germany when police were called to check on a man whose neighbors thought was dead but all he had was #SmellyFeet
reuters.com/article/us-ger…
So what causes #SmellyFeet?

Our feet smell so bad due to many factors such as:

-buildup of sweat, which leads to bacteria growth on the skin. It is these bacteria that cause bad odors.
-Fungal infections like athlete’s foot can also cause it
-Poor feet hygiene

6/
Who is at higher risk of #SmellyFeet?

Anyone can get sweaty smelly feet, regardless of the temperature or time of year.

But generally, teenagers and pregnant women have a higher risk because the hormonal changes that happen at those stages of life make them sweat more.

7/
How does #SmellyFeet happen?

Our feet produce a lot of sweat. An important fun fact is that there are more sweat glands in the feet than anywhere else in the body?

That may shock you but it’s true.
So what’s the purpose of the sweat glands?
These glands release sweat all through the day to help cool your feet and keep your skin hydrated.
However as fantastic as this sounds, it comes with its own risk- the risk posed by the presence of normal bacteria on the feet.
So as I stated earlier, there are naturally some bacteria on the feet. They are there to protect the feet from infection however these bacteria also help break down sweat on the feet as it’s released.

And as the bacteria and sweat build up, a horrible odor can be released.

9/
So generally those who are at higher risk of having #SmellyFeet are those who

-sweat more
-stand for longer periods
-under a lot of stress
-don’t wash their feet frequently
-have hyperhidrosis (a condition that makes people sweat more)
-wear socks for more than one day

10/
So what can you do about #SmellyFeet?
There are simple things u can do on Foot hygiene, Socks/Shoe Care that can help.

Wash your feet on a daily basis using mild soap and a scrubbing brush. Dry them thoroughly, especially in between the toes.

Keep your toenails short and clean.
Still on Foot hygiene ideas,

Check the soles/under of your feet for hard, dead skin and remove it with a clean safe foot file. Hard skin can become an ideal home for bacteria especially when damp and moist with sweat.

Be wise. Please Do NOT your foot file with anyone.

12/
And as regards Socks/Shoes Care in order to avoid #SmellyFeet,

Change your socks at least once a day.

Try to alternate between different pairs of shoes every day. That means don’t wear the same shoes 2 days in a row. It will give the shoes 24 hours to dry out.
Some people especially the men will wear their socks for one week in a row 🙄

Just because a pair of socks is black or brown doesn’t mean you can or you should wear it for a whole month without even washing it.
It’s very dotti dotti practice 🙄 and will make your feet smell bad.
Wear socks that will absorb sweat and moisture, such as thick, soft socks made of natural fibres or socks (such as feet-fresh socks and certain sports socks).

Always look for wool or cotton socks, and never nylon socks. Wool and cotton socks generally tend to absorb better.
Wear shoes made of leather or mesh and not synthetic material, such as plastic.

Wear open-toed sandals if you can and go barefoot at home in the evening. But if you have diabetes or any foot injury, apply this advice as it applies to you.

Never wear tight fitting shoes.
Actually for people in a warm country like Nigeria, it’s better care for your feet to wear sandals and to be barefooted at home within the safe confines of your house.

That helps your feet to stay dry and to avoid sweat/moisture building up which will cause #SmellyFeet
Clean between your toes with cotton wool dipped in surgical spirit after you have a shower or a bath.

Spirit helps dry out the skin between the toes really well – that’s apart from drying them with a towel.

However if you have any open cuts or ulcers, don’t do this please.
Apply antifungal foot spray or medicated foot powder.

Use medicated insoles, which act as a deodorant, inside the shoes.

If you are the type that likes to wear trainer/sneakers, have at least two. And never wear one for two days in a row. Don’t wear one for a week.
Antiperspirant sprays used for the armpit are also effective on the feet.

Cut your toenails short and keep them clean.

Wash your feet with an anti-bacterial soap called Hibiscrub.
Leave it on for a couple of minutes, then wash it off.
It works wonders in less than a week.
Exfoliating the feet also help prevent #SmellyFeet

Using a scrub or pumice stone can remove the dead skin cells that bacteria feeds on, which leads to a very bad smelling feet.

You can get a pumice stone from a good store around you or even from online stores.
Use a pumice stone 2-3 times a week which can keep your feet well exfoliated and clean.

If you have a caring partner, you and him/her can do it for each other. At least from a man’s perspective, that’s one simple thing you can do for her every week which will be really sweet.
You could also try a Salt Soak. It’s simple, easy and keeps your feet exfoliated, well hydrated and clean.

Get a bowl or bath tub of slightly warm water.
Dissolve one-half cup of Epsom salts in it.
Put your feet for 10-20 minutes
Then dry your feet thoroughly.
Thanks for your time.
Thanks for reading.

I hope this solves the problem of #SmellyFeet for you if it applies. I hope you learnt something new.

Read, retweet and share with others.
Do have an amazing night ahead.

For people who can’t be bothered about all the permutations and technicalities of which genotypes should (or should not) marry, this is ALL the genotype advice you need in one sentence:

IF your genotype is not AA, marry an AA partner.

That’s your best bet.
End of advice.
Or better still,

Regardless of what your genotype is,
Marry an AA partner.

Irrespective of the permutations and your own genotype, an AA partner is your best option.
I hope that’s simple enough.
Thanks for your time.

Now retweet for others to be aware.
And quite obviously, even if you are AA yourself, your best option is to marry an AA partner.

So bottom line, for everyone out there,
Regardless of your genotype,
Your best option is to marry an AA partner.

An AA partner is the best genotype to combine with.
However you see it.

In the following tweets I will address an issue which I’ve heard two similar stories about and I have had to apologise to the people involved and also offer a form of ‘explanation’ on behalf of the doctors involved.

Please read this story and hopefully we all learn.
#Chaperone
Case 1: A man in his 40s went to a hospital and saw a young female doctor because he’s been having more frequent urination and waking up at night a lot to urinate.

The lady asked to check his prostate by putting her fingers in his anus, and he felt very awkward.
#Chaperone
He claimed (may not be true) the lady basically just told him “You need to pull your trousers and I need to check your prostate by putting my finger in your anus” and didn’t offer him any form of witness to make the procedure comfortable for him.
But he had it done.

I have lived in UK a few years now and NEVER has my bank ever charged me one penny for bank transfer.
NEVER. NOT ONCE.

I’m sorry. But that 52 naira 50kobo that Nigerian banks deduct per transaction, what exactly is it for?

Why is no one speaking out against this blatant fraud?
Next is the fraudulent “Card Maintenance Fees” by our Nigerian banks. Please how are you maintaining a card that lives in my wallet?

I have about 3-4 UK Bank Cards here. Both credit cards and debit cards.
I have NEVER paid any such thing as a “Card Maintenance Fee”.
NEVER EVER.
The Nigerian Banking Sector is an unfortunately over-bloated industry that thrives on systemically entrenched policies that terribly defrauds us Nigerians and lives on cheating the average citizen of the hard earned money that is entrusted in their care to help save and invest.

I firmly believe the Medical And Dental Council of Nigeria needs to start punishing PUBLICLY medical malpractice.

A country where medical professionals can do what they like with NO FEAR of consequences or jail time or licenses withdrawn is a dangerous country for its citizens.
There’s a healthy level of caution that needs to be in every medical professional. You must approach our job with the FULL understanding that your actions and our decisions can be investigated and will be investigated should anything go wrong.

This has to be clear.
Medical professionals deal with human lives, and not something that is easily replaceable should it get lost.

One of the many ways to step up the standard of professionalism and quality of care from health workers is to make it clear there will be punishment for malpractice.

Someone sent me a copy of trash that has been spreading round on WhatsApp groups and I think I should address it. You may have been unlucky to see it in one way or the other.

But here I’ve posted it.

“If you have sex with a man, his DNA lives in you forever”

THAT IS A LIE pls!
Then it goes ahead to talk about an imaginary research that has NO names of researchers and NO journals stated where it was published. This is a red flag. Shows you it is scam.

A simple way to recognise #FakeNews is the total absence of verifiable sources of information posted.
“Anytime you have sex with a man you become one with that man (spiritually too) and carry the man’s DNA”

This is an unfortunate mixture of bias with silly nonsense. There’s NO scientific research that is interested in “spiritual” joining of people thru sex. Whatever that means.

To boys who tell ladies they are having very severe stomach pains from not having sex:
Your day of reckoning has come 😂😂

That line is an ABSOLUTE lie 😂😂

No man ever gets severe acute stomach ache from not having sex.
And NO, not having sex has NO LONG TERM DAMAGES to a man.
I understand as a part of some imaginary bro code, I shouldn’t put this information out there 😂😂😂

But I’m sorry, I’m just a messenger doing the work of the Lord 😂

The story that a man will be having very severe stomach ache that can only be relieved by sex is a total lie 🌚
What some men term as “blue balls” is actually a feeling of sexual frustration and dull discomfort due to fluid congestion when a man gets really aroused sexually.

It’s a normal restlessness and discomfort that goes with sexual release- it’s NOT a life threatening situation.
