Why is there #Aptitude difference between multiple humans who lie in the same category as "trying to work smart" & trying hard?

Today I met a school time dear friend of mine, and had a long discussion. Felt like he's got a higher aptitude then mine..

So am not able to conclude.. The answer to above question hence posted..
