Dude..In 2018, what argument can possibly hold as to why women cannot be ordained to priesthood?
Let me share some screenshots from an article that addresses this question.
Responses shared are by a theologian of the papal household.
Does this sound familiar? #tweetwithmalelogic
Jesus chose men as his disciples, so lady....... you can't sit here.
Apostolic succession follows that the church must use the same model left by Christ to his followers.
Also...Don't ask too many questions, because it's a Mystery.🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️
Oh and...the Son of God become man, and so in accordance with the image of Christ, a man should be the figure head because his maleness plays a part in us seeing Christ in him...also men are just more..logical. 🙂
Also priests love the church in a ..."male way"...caring more about the buildings and structures, things women priests would be too ditzy, illogical and distracted to do.
Oh yes, and DUH a woman's mission in the church is to help men in the church with faith and charity. That should be enough for us, afterall playing helper to a man is what God brought us on earth to do. 🤷🏾♀️
Digressing a tad, this article I am reading starts with discussing a priest, Roy Bourgeois who was dismissed from priesthood for an "invalid" ordination of a woman.
Advocating for ordination of women priests is what gets priests swiftly dismissed, not molesting kids. That one we just sweep under the rug and guilt the victims into not reporting to law enforcement.
Now let's go back to the original question asked, and explore the philosophy that dictated the response of "Get your lady ass back into the kitchen!" still used today.
Meet Thomas Aquinas, a canonized saint, catholic priest, theologian and philosopher whose body of work,
Greatly influenced the medieval catholic church and much of western philosophy. In modern times his work is used as a required program of study for those seeking ordination into priesthood.
His most popular work was the summa theologica, described as one of the most influential
Works of western literature. Now Thomas Aquinas was heavily influenced by Aristotelian philosophy, and if you are familar with it, you would know that he held unfavorable views about women.
His belief was that women were inferior to men, and women essentially were deformed men.
His basis of assigning women inferior status was based on his faulty notions of our biology, he believed that the male semen actively gave the fetus it's form, while the female had only the passive role of providing matter.
So here we have this sainted priest, whose works
Served as the basis for the teachings of the christian church, which also majorly shaped western thought, influenced by
A man with illogical views about women.
What chance did we have?
Now back to the contents of the summa theologica, he spoke about the production of women.
The philosophy he shared in his responses to the question asked on our creation, served for centuries as reasons why women cannot be ordained as priests, and most importantly, why our inferiority was justified.
Without going into detail (google it to read more),
He asserted that women were created to help men, not with intellectual tasks, because caman dullard women, you know you are not that bright, MEN will do the rational minded work.
We were to help with helping men have their children. 🤷🏾♀️
Then he affirms aristotle's philosophy on women being defective and misbegotten, because you see... males are born perfectly, but our own creation came from a mutation....but...God intended it so we could bear children for men. Hurray!!
Then of course my favorite part, women are inferior and thus subject to men because men are rational and proceed with reason.
Having a man guide us is for our own good though because they are wiser than we are, it's nature. 🤷🏾♀️
When you reflect on the philosophy that society held to be true for so many years, affecting the lives of women for centuries, that science, expanded knowledge and time has proven to be wrong, you have to understand why we keep pushing to eliminate #malelogic.
All it has ever
Done is wrongfully steal the lives of women, subsequently stalling the advancement of all of us humans.
For it to be 2018, and FLAWED & ILLOGICAL philosophy from men like Aristotle & Aquinas, still governing why women cannot serve as priests, is proof that you must let go
Of blind belief in what you have been told, & instead listen to the voices of the people loudly sharing their real experiences, because that is where you begin to piece together the truth.
Remember, regurgitated logic comes from a place of unquestioned simplicity.
My male friend and I drove to a Thai restaurant to pick up food. On arrival, a slick black Tesla drove into the parking spot right next to us and a very attractive woman hopped out of the car and walked into the same restaurant we were going.
In my mind I was like I wonder what she does. She was dressed like she had come straight from work, and was put together Amal Clooney style. I guessed entertainment Lawyer, before I could vocalize my thoughts.
My male friend blurted out, "I wonder who bought her that car".
My friend is not the average sexist man, he thinks logically most of the time, but his mind immediately just regressed to viewing this obviously successful woman, as incapable of owning a car that was better than his own.
While I was brainstorming what her job could be
Most of the world is unable to seperate sex from homosexuality.
They immediately believe that a child realizing he/she likes the same sex, is envisioning sexual acts, yet at the very same ages, recall their own innocent crushes fondly and free of sexual urgency.
I remember my first childhood crush, I was 5 and I liked the way he saluted while saying the pledge. I thought it was cute how badly he did it.
And so running into tweets of people wondering why a child is thinking of "homosexuality" at the age of 9, is just so unfortunate
You think of it negatively, you see it as something to "protect" children from, because of what your foul mind envisions.
oh the glorious heterosexuality everyone waxes poetic about.
Everyday on this app, we witness so much heterosexual incompatibility, yet you are so certain
Religious people use symbolic speech to explain beliefs that marginalize others, because it doesn't make sense using regular reasoning.
The most genius part of religion was assigning divinity to what cannot be explained.
Why is it this way if it harms others?
"God made it so"
Imagine if I wrote a book and in it I claimed that God created all sagittarus people to rule the world.
Q: How do you know God wanted just sagittaurus people to be in charge of the world?
A: Because it is written in the book I wrote.
Q: Reading your book, it also says Leos were created to help Sagittaurus and were made from their femurs and thus should be led by Sagittaurus for the rest of their days.
A: Yes, I wrote it in my book because I am a sagittarus so I know what God specifically wants for us all.
Most Feminists raised in religious homes, grew to be aware of the humanity behind the centering of the male gender.
Religion formed within a patriarchal society, will favor males & prioritize male leaders.
A human tactic of retaining power repackaged as God's design for gender
Feminism rejects patriarchy as the ultimate authority for her life, instead placing logic, emphathy & choice on the throne.
The god of patriarchy pridefully says: Women are the helpers of men and must reduce their womanhood for the benefit of men.
At it's root, feminism was built upon a foundation of truth. When the crimes and injustice against women were impossible to ignore. When the lies used to justify the restriction and harming of women, could not provide supporting evidence.
I just got nominated for head feminist by @FisayoLonge & I am also married, so i can correct you.
We are logical so we have an equal partnership. We both value what we contribute to the relationship & thus our lives are easy, thoughtful and considerate.
Here he is @myronbrew
It is telling the horrible controlling men women accomodate in the name of being married when so many people are so certain, that feminists are secretly groveling at home, while being bold on the timeline.
My husband follows me on twitter and was the one who encouraged me
To keep my account open, when i almost closed it last year out of being panicked over the massive response I was getting for my tweets.
I am very private even though I may appear public, the very epitome of an introverted extrovert.
I would never marry a man who i could not
The people who made up oppressive cultural rules that dull Nigerians want to enforce on others, did they like their lives?
How do we know living up to their rules, is worth denying ourselves what we want...today?
Can we ask them if they enjo....oops, they are dead.
So let me get this straight, I am supposed to live by cultural rules, made up by people from the past who are now deceased, rules dictated by people in a society then, that saw women as property and of inferior status, rules that
Held no basis in logic, and only entertained
The highly questionable logic espoused by the male leaders of the time? Those rules? Should guide me today in my daily dealings with society?
Can anyone tell me why I with my advanced degrees, stellar intellect and world experience, will restrict myself to old timey rules
