RT if you would watch a TV cookery show where the presenter/chef
is disabled, talks openly about it, and mental health, uses chopped/frozen/tinned ingredients, and cooks simple affordable accessible recipes. Because TV commissioners listen to numbers, and this is what I do.
I was devastated when my hands started giving up because I was frightened my cooking career would be over before it began. But I have accepted it, adapted, and refuse to gloss over the crappy days to keep up appearances. If that makes you uncomfortable, well, never mind.
People chiming in my thread to bitch about other TV cooks, just don't. I have learned from almost all of them (their books not in person!), but especially Nigel, Nigella, and Jamie. The TV is big enough for all of us and I wouldn't be who I am - doing what I do - without them. 💕
Also, I literally wrote the book(s) on this -

amazon.co.uk/gp/product/150…
...and this one... amzn.to/2OG8MRz
And now I'm gonna try to nap on the way to Edinburgh. Thanks all for kind comments - you keep me shuffling forwards on days where I just want to dig a hole and belligerently sit in it - so thankyou.
Sigh!! People asking what disability has to do with cooking; well some days I can't grip a knife. Pre chopped foods can be 5x the price of basics. Dodgy legs mean unable to stand for long periods sometimes. Specific dietary needs. Poor mental health impacts nutritional choices.
Some disabilities mean specialised diets which - guess what - can be very expensive. Learning simple hacks like oven baking risotto, subbing ingredients, flavour basics, boiling onions/garlic to make peeling simpler, can make a lot of difference...
...microwave cooking is completely different to oven/hob cooking - flavours behave differently, liquid volumes need adjusting, some stuff is just shit, some is great, but it takes a lot of energy to work out what works...
...road testing food processors for one that is cheap but reliable, and doesnt require athletic levels of strength to operate. (I found it, will link in a bit when this train of thought pauses in a tunnel...)
I can no longer lift my (charity shop, £3) Le Creuset pans. I have a stool next to the oven to sit on. I can't grip my knives sometimes (but duct tape around the handles helps a little). Using a cheap nail brush to knock the gubbins off veg is easier on my wrists than peeling.
A lot of people with disabilities rely on woefully inadequate care budgets and microwave dinners. Personal Independence Payments cut, sick people stripped of meagre benefits, disabled people literally dying of hunger - and you dare say there's no LINK? Nah.
13.9million disabled people in the UK. We all need to eat. Where's our bloody spoonie simple nutritious non-patronising representative accessible affordable primetime cookery show? We make up almost a quarter of the population, for goodness sake. 😡
*breathes*

Here's ya blender. It's a goodun. Finely chops veg, makes hummus and dips, purees, soups and smoothies and stuff. Just press down to activate, release to stop it. (I only recommend stuff I genuinely use and love.)

Boop boop! TV presenter training booked in and pinning down a date for filming a pilot! Thanks everyone 😍 Am funding the pilot myself as I'm not a pisstaker and nobody actually pays the rent with 'exposure', so if you want to help, you can at paypal.me/jackmonroe - thanks!
And if mainstream TV doesnt pick it up, I'll look at alternative funding for a YouTube series (not filmed by me because I'm not able to do that stuff; so will incur costs for cameraperson/edits/etc. Conversations for the future etc)

Anyone else with any experience of Sertraline? Week two and I'm throwing up like I've got morning sickness here. Not really helpful when I've got a very very busy day ahead!
Also for the replies saying 'stop taking them' - advising people to quit medication that has been prescribed by a doctor who has a comprehensive overview of that person's life, health and circumstances, is unhelpful at best and downright dangerous at worst. Please stop.
Secondly, stigmatising mental illness contributes to people not seeking help. There is no shame in needing a bit of chemical rewiring. When I broke my foot, I went to the doctor. Why should a broken head be any different? It isn't.

A reminder that under the Tories we now have:
11,000 fewer firefighting personnel
4.2m in poverty
1.5m food bank parcels a year
5,000 fewer bobbies on the beat
An £11,000 pay rise for MPs
A UN investigation into UK poverty
A landmark study linking austerity to 120,000 deaths...
...just tonight I heard from a food bank who have seen an EIGHTY FIVE PERCENT INCREASE in referrals since universal credit was rolled out in their town...
Just today I heard of a cancer patient who died with just £8 to his name after being declared 'fit to work' by this arcane and violent system...

I refuse to engage with trolls who have fewer Twitter followers than my cat.
For context, the cat has been on Twitter for 2 weeks and has 1036 followers. And he doesn't even write his own damn tweets. 😁
FGS. He's at @PussInBootstrap - he doesn't tweet very often, mostly too busy eating spiders and destroying shoes.

I'm just gonna say I don't think 'Jacks' DOES want the Aldi/Lidl market. They've opened two stores. Aldi/Lidl have 21,366 between them. Jack's are also not big enough, opening in former Express shops. They look more like edging out the McColls/Londis but nobody wants to say it...
...So while their layout seems very Aldi/Lidl, along with the middle aisle of rando stuff, I'm not convinced they're a serious contender for the budget brands. They're going in the wrong places, the wrong size, and alongside existing Tesco stores. Watching with interest.
Anyway I could be entirely wrong, but it doesn't feel like it's even remotely a contender. Maybe a publicity stunt akin to pizza hut rebranding some stores as 'Pasta Hut' for a while, but opening 15 shops in a year in existing sites feels a bit like a piss in the wind IMHO

I can confirm today that following that landmark libel case, Katie Hopkins has entered into an IVA to avoid bankruptcy. I knew for a while but could not say anything for legal reasons. The arbitrary defender of free speech didn't want anyone to know, ironically...
...I have been paid in full, but many of her creditors, including my lawyer, will not be paid what they are owed. For the want of an apology, a house, a job, a column, a radio show, and now financial solvency, were lost. It's all very sad, actually.
I'm not cruel nor celebrating - that case cost me 18 months of sanity and work, and I think neither of us wanted it to turn out this way.

(I can recommend an excellent budget cookery book or three, for getting back on your feet, though)
