I want to make something very clear: I love my dad. All my life I was his biggest fan, I had nothing but respect for him and I took *everything* he said to heart. I couldn't stand disappointing him. He's even the reason I got into gaming, he loves games as much as I do.
But lately...
I still love my father, I always will. But the respect is gone. I can't respect someone who isn't, well, respectable. I've never subscribed to the belief that being in authority or elderly or blah blah blah.
You either earn respect, or you don't. No exceptions.

It's like trust, and once you lose either there's no quick route back.
I hope we get back one day, I hope someone can get through to him just enough for him to start asking questions. That's all it took for me, just the nudge to start questioning, to start trying.

It's probably a pipe-dream, but it'll have to do for now.
Until then, at least I can say he & mom raised me well. I grew up strong-willed, stubborn, and brave enough to stand up to anyone.
