Let’s talk about the newly launched “Iran Action Group” of the U.S. State Department.
To begin with, let’s listen to @SecPompeo's remarks.
Important excerpt:

“Since the President’s decision to withdraw from the Iran deal in May, Brian has played an important role in shaping our strategy of maximum diplomatic and economic pressure.”

“We are going to continue to rely on him and his team to lead our efforts to counter the Iranian regime’s malign activity, to support Iranian voices, and to galvanize international support for our efforts.”
And now, U.S. Special Representative for Iran Brian Hook.
This specifically terrifies #Iran’s regime:
“And in the Secretary’s speech in May, he outlined 12 requirements. These are the kinds of things that we would expect any normal nation to do,” Hook added.
“Hook, who has pushed for tough action against Iran, has been leading the department’s talks with allies in Europe and Asia to persuade them to support U.S. sanctions and cut off Iran’s oil supplies as of November.”
And from the New York Times citing the Associated Press:
Now my thoughts, if I may:

First of all, the very name is quite interesting: “Iran Action Group”
And not, for example, “Working Group on Iran”
“Working Group” would fall in line with Obama’s disastrous appeasement approach.
No thanks.

“Action Group” is in line with @realDonaldTrump’s firm policy vis-à-vis #Iran’s malign mullahs.

The very establishment of such a group for #Iran signals the fast-pace developments against Tehran’s interests.
What weakens the mullahs strengthens the Iranian people.
#Iran’s @khamenei_ir now faces an utterly important decision:

- Continue tough-talk & malign behavior
- Succumb to Sec. Pompeo’s 12 conditions

Mark my words: Both paths will lead to #IranRegimeChange.
A necessary reminder from #Iran’s VP:

April 21st
“There’s an unprecedented linkage between our economic-social & int’l challenges. Our domestic issues are influencing int’l matters.”

Meaning: US has realized #IranProtests are weakening the mullahs.
And finally, when the likes of @tparsi & @jabdi of @NIACouncil oppose the formation of the Iran Action Group, I need no other proof that this initiative will deliver serious blows to #Iran’s regime, to the benefit of the Iranian people & #IranProtests.
As always, the conclusion is yours to make.

I welcome any and all constructive feedback.

Thanks in advance!

U.S. President Donald Trump has accepted the resignation of Nikki Haley as UN Ambassador.

My gut tells me an even bigger story will develop.

Rest assured #Iran's regime is terrified about who Trump/Pompeo will appoint as their new envoy.
Amb. Nikki Haley spoke six months ago with President Donald Trump about the subject of resigning.
Will be staying at this post until the end of the year.
Amb. Nikki Haley saying she will be campaigning for President Trump in 2020.

Add this to the long list linking #Iran's regime with international terrorism.

This time, the al Qaeda-affiliated al Shabaab militant group of Somalia.

More reason why a firm policy is needed against Tehran.
"Criminal networks are using Iran as a transit point for illicit Somali charcoal exports that earn Islamist militants al Shabaab millions of dollars annually in tax, U.N. sanctions monitors said in a report seen by Reuters."
"... domestic revenue generation by al Qaeda-affiliated al Shabaab 'is more geographically diversified and systematic' than that of Somalia’s federal government."

Reports indicate atmosphere in #Iran's parliament (the Majlis) is very tense as members review the anti-money laundering Financial Action Task Force (FATF) signing bill.
Sources say "hardliners" are voicing threats about the signing of this bill.

(File Photo)
"Regarding the FATF, should we commit suicide today by signing this bill because we're going to die in the future?" says Behrouz Nemati, a member of #Iran's Majlis (parliament).

Read more about Iran & the FATF here:
"Hardliners in Iran’s parliament have opposed passing legislation toward compliance with FATF standards, arguing it could hamper Iranian financial support for allies such as Lebanon’s Hezbollah, which the US has classified as a terrorist organization."

Short Thread:

#Iran's #FakeNews machine at work:

"It did not say where Zahedifar was arrested. In a video carried by state broadcaster IRIB, a blindfolded man who identified himself as Zahedifar denied he had fled Iran."
Here's the video.

What a coincidence (!), all of this developing just "a week after Tehran sentenced three people to death in a drive against economic crimes."
