A summary of Baghdadi’s new audio message, the first in a year
The 55-minute statement is titled: "Give Glad Tidings to the Patient"
First 8 minutes of the state of Muslims & Islam today .. a pervasive "jahiliyyah" (pre-Islam state) & Muslims have to return to the way of the Salaf (1st 3 generations).
Islamic State fighters remain steadfast against all kinds of enemies: Jews, crusaders, apostates, Majus/Iran.
Baghdadi says the US has been fighting in Muslim countries for two decades, and it's already restless as a result, "the patch of jihad has expanded", financial problems are causing the US to go after its friends, citing the US-Turkish row over the priest.
Baghdadi says Turkey's refusal to abide by the U.S. sanctions on Iran is a sign of its growing weakness.
Says the mujahideen caused the US to align with the Shia militias in Iraq, and caused Russia to come to Syria to compete with it.
Baghdadi compares between Syria rebels & Iraq Sahwat, facing the same fate. Speaks directly to rebels' rank-and-file to contemplate what happened & how their commanders betrayed/fooled them, calls on them to join ISIS instead. (A familiar tactic from Iraq on how to flip those).
Baghdadi's more substantive 2nd part tries to appeal to Syrian rebels after the military losses in Ghouta, Deraa & potentially Idlib. Says ISIS never surrendered, always fought till the end. Rejects that the idea ISIS brought unnecessary fighting to areas, citing above examples.
As consistently in his speeches, Baghdadi addresses the people of the Arabian Peninsula (mostly Saudi), although he mentions the #UAE for the first time in a speech.
He calls on Saudis to 'reject the humiliation you live in... the apostasy of Al Saloul State has become clear even to your boys'
Baghdadi says Saudi tries to "westernize you, secularize you, in a systematic campaign to cause you to apostatize & destroy the methodology of Suna wa Jamaa among you." Warns against clerics who defend Al Saud in the name of stability & fitna. Calls on carrying arms against them.
A message to Jordanians too, specifically naming tribes and towns, mocking them for revolting against the government for bread not for sharia.
Baghdadi delivers a message to Sunni tribes in Iraq, says their members are now being picked up in broad daylight, despite their appeal for protection from the Shia militias.
Baghdadi delivers a message to Sunni tribes in Iraq, says their members are now being picked up in broad daylight, by ISIS, despite their appeal for protection from the Shia militias.
Baghdadi to Iraqi tribes: 'we still accept repentance as long as it's before one is caught.'
Baghdadi to ISIS branches across the region: 'if you're hurting, they're also hurting.. march on, this is the way of prophets.. migration and fighting... don't dispute the authority of your emirs.. be warned of those who try to drive a wedge between you and your emirs.'
BaghdadiL "the war with them has been refueled, and its flame will intensify. The Nusayris & Kurds have been pushed to this fight, which will eventually leave none of them alive..."
".... they think they've reduced the State to Hajin & environs. The matter is different from what they think. They will not enjoy an inch of Syria, by God. The State is not reduced to Hajin..."
Important. Baghdadi calls for attacks in the West and worldwide, the first time such a call comes from him, previously by Adnani. He specifies driving through crowds, and said one such attack equals 1,000 of attacks in the region.

With Turkey closing in on Afrin, the rejection of the Russian plan now seems a miscalculation by the YPG. But is it?
I argue here that it speaks of the folly of the long-held argument the YPG would eventually hand over areas to the regime in eastern Syria thenational.ae/opinion/commen…
Continuing with the Afrin updates:
• the Turkish operation has now reached its second milestone.
• chips are falling in favor of Turkey in northern Syria, whether the YPG chooses to stand & fight or not.
• contrary to consensus, I still believe Turkey won’t take the city.
• with Turkey being on a roll diplomatically & militarily, the question for the YPG is where/how this will stop
• none of the YPG’s friends is willing to stand up & stop Turkey
• on the contrary, the US & Russia now seek to accommodate Ankara concerns; Iran has limited options
Follow this thread for highlights from the (sure to be remarkable) speech by Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on the Trump administration’s Syria strategy:
"The nature of the Assad regime, like that of its sponsor Iran, is malignant. It has promoted state terror. It has empowered groups that kill American soldiers, such as al-Qaeda in Iraq"
"The story of Syria has been one of humanitarian catastrophe. Up to half a million Syrians have died. Over 5.4m Syrians are refugees, and 6.1m are internally displaced persons as a result of conflict between regime and opposition forces. Whole cities have been destroyed."
In his notebook, bin Laden answers a question about who would list as a religious influence: “I was committed with the Muslim Brotherhood. Their resources were limited. I read Sira (prophet’s biography). Meeting once a week, a set of pages. Religious influence wasn’t much.”
... “Were you not influenced Zindani and the Scientific Miracles of Quran? I was influenced by him in his speciality, not by him as a teacher.”
In this section, he asks himself questions and then answer them.
Updates from Deir Ezzor:
• Regime forces face a major loss in al-Shula after an ISIS desert counterattack, reverting recent gains.
• the battle is so far is conducted largely by the Russian airforce to pave the way for a possible second phase of Iranian-supplied ground forces
*reversing
The ISIS counterattack also reversed some of the regime's gains in Sukhnah.
