Decency. Understanding. Common Sense. These aren't things that would've had made McCain special 20 years ago, but they are exactly why the GOP turned their backs on him. Don't let them change the narrative now that's he's gone. 1/
I didn't love McCain. He represented a party that I fundamentally disagree with on almost everything, but I always respected the man. There was a time many Republicans were respectable, but those days ended after the '08 election. 2/
What changed? We all know the answer. A black man became President and the Tea Party played on the fears of racist and uneducated voters to hijack the party. 3/
Senator McCain doesn't have to be your hero to understand that with his death the Party of Lincoln is officially gone. War Hero, Father, Husband, Representative, Senator- those are just some of the things he was over the years. 4/
During all of that he was dedicated to his country. Look at what's left of the GOP. Who in that party can be trusted to uphold the Constitution and defend our Country? The GOP had their chance. That party officially died this afternoon. 5/5
