Have I got this wrong? 1. Ecuador wins compensation from Chevron for polluting. 2. Ecuador Supreme Court dismisses Chevron protest. 3. Ecuador govt dismisses Supreme Court judges. 4. Ecuador gets massive loans instead of Chevron compensation.
Chevron deliberately dumped 16 billon gallons of cancer-causing oil waste into #Ecuador rainforest waterways and abandoned 1,000 toxic waste pits. csrwire.com/press_releases…
Court ruled $19 billion liability, reduced to $12b. But Chevron no longer operates in #Ecuador, who therefore tried (unsuccessfully) to pursue the oil giant in foreign courts. Chevron has now counter sued: forbes.com/sites/michaelk…
Chevron not only wants the liability ruling dismissed but also "full indemnification and damages against #Ecuador, including all costs and attorneys’ fees, with pre-award and post-award interest." A dangerous precedent for oil giants globally.
In 2011 Chevron sued 47 impoverished villagers in #Ecuador plus their New York lawyer for $60 billion. Chevron has spent an estimated $2 billion on 60 law firms and 2,000 lawyers on the decades old case. Meanwhile villagers are dying from drinking poisoned water all their lives.
Of course the #Ecuador govt would say this case has nothing to do with the recent dismissal of 9 Supreme Court judges, who were blamed for "conflicts of interest and ignoring a huge backlog of work". But we know President @Lenin Moreno wants "improved relations with the world".
With yesterday's announcement of over $1 billion in loans to #Ecuador, it will be interesting to see what happens next with the #Chevron case. Sure looks like quid pro quo to me. #FreeASSANGE
#Ecuador's govt is now planning legal action against @MashiRafael Correa and other ex-govt officials for "wasting public money" on the "political" case against #Chevron. Beyond a joke! Mass protests coming September 13.
Former FM @RicardoPatinoEC, who is also accused, points out that the people of the Amazon region won their case against #Chevron, who then sued the govt.
A day after Moreno's govt sided with Chevron and blamed Correa, a court in the Hague has ruled against Ecuador. yahoo.com/news/court-scr…
People in Ecuador say President @Lenin Moreno is a traitor who made a dirty deal. #Ecuador will now be forced to pay #Chevron for destroying their Amazonian environment!
The case against Chevron was known as "the dirty hand of Chevron" + hashtag #LaManoSuciaDeChevron. Now protesters in Ecuador are condemning the "dirty hand of Moreno" #13S#LaManoSuciaDeMoreno.
Correa's govt was frequently criticized in Western "left wing" media for oil-drilling in the Amazon. Strange how these environmental concerns disappear... twitter.com/search?q=from%…
Correa says Moreno has clearly made a deal with #Chevron, as they did with #Odebrecht (ex-VP jailed). "Only an immoral world order, and a traitor government, could get away with it."
The Hague court ruled that #Ecuador violated an article of the "bilateral treaty on protection of investments with the USA", but still has not announced the amount of $$$ indemnity (could take months). eltelegrafo.com.ec/noticias/polit…
That treaty was signed in 1997 (pre-Correa) and is now being applied retrospectively. Moreno has betrayed 25 years of hard struggle. #Chevron destroyed over 450,000 hectares of Amazon jungle. Here's a good video in English of this long, sad case: telesurtv.net/english/pages/…
One of #Chevron's lawyers just happens to be the uncle of one of @Lenin Moreno's government officials. Important to note that the people of #Ecuador did not vote for this: they voted for a continuation of Correa's "Citizens Revolution". #LaManoSuciaDeMoreno#LaManoSuciaDeChevron
#auspol MP @StuartRobertMP charged taxpayers up to $2,800 a month for his home internet bills. He also spent $16,880 of taxpayers' money on "personalised letterhead stationery". PS: he has blocked me just like Bishop, Morriscum and others. abc.net.au/news/2018-10-0…
#auspol MP @StuartRobertMP also flogging $5800 per person tours to Israel. michaelsmithnews.com/2018/10/for-sa… He's an Evangelical just like PM Morriscum (his wife is a church pastor). Also ex-army. And seems to be abusing secrecy powers...
#auspol MP @StuartRobertMP in March demanded parliament apologize for not helping Jews in WWII: timesofisrael.com/australian-mp-… Even the Council of Australian Jewry said he was wrong: Australian took 15,000 Jewish refugees! Now he's Assistant Treasurer!
This pathetic hack attacked #WikiLeaks and #Assange with smears and lies, now he loudly complains that nobody will return his calls. LMFAO. Put someone decent on the beat, @AP. #FreeASSANGE
AP claim they have "tens of thousands of files". But they are leading with Israel Samir asking the Russian embassy to give @JulianAssange asylum in 2010? It's well known @wikileaks was trying every option at the time. As Kristinn Hrafnsson says, that's “rather uninteresting.”
Poveda said the letters "indicated precisely the concerns we have over withdrawal of nationality and asylum." So @Lenin Moreno is also planning to withdraw citizenship? He has to if he wants to legally evict #ASSANGE: #Ecuador's constitution protects citizens from extradition.
Poveda said #Assange's lawyers have been "keeping an eye on UK newspapers" and seeking to meet @Lenin Moreno "but at the moment there seems no possibility of doing so."
THREAD: Once upon a time there were three brothers in #Iraq who wrote a pro-US blog welcoming the illegal invasion of their country... #Fullbright

Their names were Omar, Mohammed and Ali Fadhil. Their blog was called Iraq The Model (inspired by Neocon claims that the Iraq invasion would become a model for US expansion in ME).
The blog was wildly popular with the pro-war crowd and heavily featured in US corporate media. The Fadhil brothers even got invited to meet President Bush in the White House (thanks to Paul Wolfowitz).
