Each night I sit down to write meaningful Tweets to get released around dinner time, eastern time and each night have been pulled into a bunch of different conversations that don't end until after midnight.
Some of these are just operational conversations with team members to plan for MOAR for example, or work on other initiatives but even more are getting introduced to people and meeting people who want to support our initiative.
There are a lot of you!
We've met over 4k new Twitter followers in the past week and a half or so and another 400 on Facebook.
Many have contacted us through the site. The number of hecklers has been far less than we expected, to be honest.
As most of you know by now. the place we got stuck has been on delivery of the donated money to DHS.
There have been several developments on that front in the past day, not all of which I can detail here yet but all of which are promising.
One in particular was Pres. Trump earlier today saying "when it comes to border security, I'll do anything". That's a veritable green light for a solution like this.

Make up some memes exploiting this quote, if you would. We will too.
We met a lot of you because of the petition that we've been circulating, which was just one method that we've been using to try bringing our project to Pres. Trump's attention.
🚨There are still 6 days left to go so please continue sharing! 🚨
But there are other ways too.
As we outlined earlier, there are other contacts that can be made in the Senate and House, and we've been working on both the public campaign and in private trying to get people's attention in Congress.
✅ It's working.
We knew that we could find people that were one or two degrees separated from Pres. Trump that would eventually see us and be willing to pass a message his way.
They don't always jump right out in front of you, but a few key emails or DM's here & there and...
✅ It's working.
We knew that having put the time into it to get it this far, the project's newsworthy. We've gotten some coverage and more is forthcoming. We knew we had to leverage THAT into national news coverage in order to be truly effective.
More will be revealed, but...
✅ It's working.
We guessed that there were a lot of people out there who believe, like us, that a secure border's more important than a few extra dollars in our pocket & so we invested our time and effort into getting this going. Told a few people, they told a few more, and...
✅ It's working.
So don't be too concerned that there are only a few thousand signatures on that petition at this point.
We knew that we would have to explain this idea a few times to people & it would take time to work our way to real reach + credibility.
Once that happens 100k sigs is easy.
Not to mention that if we get to President Trump for an answer prior to Sept. 11, well...the petition's unnecessary.
We can't bank on it, but things are looking good.
We made a plan, and so far thanks to your support,
A lot of people ask how we can justify being a nonprofit. How is building a border wall a charity case? We had to answer that for ourselves before we could even begin the process. We knew if donations weren't tax deductible there was no point in even starting to #FundTheWall.
A simple reading of the definition of a charity according to the IRS shows we have a solid basis: "erecting or maintaining public buildings, monuments, or works;", The wall is a public work. It doesn't say WE have to build it, just that the money has goes to it GETTING built.
We could go on a tangent here, about whether a "border SYSTEM" including ground sensing radar, microphone arrays, drones, etc. is a public work. We think it probably is. For right now, we'll focus on the wall and come back to the rest once the flow of money is moving.
American Border Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, operates fundthewall dot com as a crowdfunding service to provide money to DHS to build a border wall.
We've been slowly working through gov't red tape since about July 2017.
There are three key elements, at the most basic level:
- How do we get money?
- How do we give it to the Gov't?
- How do we make sure they only spend it on the wall?
The first is simple, technically; but we knew it needed to be tax-deductible so that was key item #1.
We inc'ed in September 2017 and applied for non-profit status in December 2017.
It took us until early August 2018 to get a determination back that we were approved.
So, the input side is done: donations are tax deductible on Federal returns and tech stack to donate is built.
