While I was at the USCA I learned that one of the biggest issues the trans community faces when it comes to gun violence is that often times Trans people are misgendered by law enforcement, local media and even family members.
This often can make the the amount of gun violence the trans community faces be reported as significantly less then it actually is. Which is horrifying because of how many hate crimes can go unreported when people are not identified as being trans.

The young people of this country have seen enough violence and death. These incredible students in New Orleans deserve more coverage for their incredible activism in the wake of tragedy.

From 2000 to 2015 suicide rate in Utah has gone up 51%
Utah has no law imposing a waiting period prior to the purchase of a firearm which could help stop this epidemic.
According to a study conducted by Harvard researchers “Between 1970 and 2014, 43 states had waiting period laws in place for at least 1 year. The researchers compared guns per capita homicide rates in states with and without the laws over the same time periods.
