Today, @BrookingsInst took a big step in our work toward creating a more diverse & inclusive Institution: publishing our demographics, our business case for change, & some steps in our strategy. I am proud of our leaders' investment in the work ahead. brookings.edu/blog/up-front/…
Y'all know I hate #manels. @BrookingsInst Pres John Allen: "In 2015, we started tracking the make-up of Brookings panels w the aim of showcasing a greater diversity of perspectives at our public events. We’ve seen a 47% decline in all-male panels since we began that exercise."
I'm excited to do more work and make more progress in the months and years to come. Are you ready to make an impact? Join me! brookings.edu/careers/
I'm just gonna say this: I wish this weekend's Nazi march in my beloved city weren't happening. But I appreciate that my city belongs to the whole country & the Constitution says everyone gets to come here and say their piece, even if they don't let us have a Rep in Congress. 1/
My city is majority-minority; I'm proud of its history & diversity & pluralism, even with all its flaws & inadequacies. I know those Nazis are coming here not just because it's the nation's capital, but because my city represents what they hate and fear. 2/
I reject their views & I am proud of my town. I want all of us in DC to show the country & the world the best of us this weekend. The diversity, the strong LGBT community, the interfaith work for social justice, everything that makes us beautiful and representative of America. 3/
