1. #Ethiopia/n government have communication strategy problem. Look how messed up the communication of the Engineer’s death investigation. Given the lack of trust in state institutions, the work should have been supported by good communications.
2. State media in all its force aggressively worked for days to manufacture grief and shaped public opinion. The government knowing things are complicated and GRD project was not fine, should have refrained from anything that might influence public opinion.
3. they did not try to shape public opinion for a more than a month and let conspiracies prevail. Even with the press conference they did not prepare any form of detailed documentation. there preparation was unmatched with the certainty of the public.
4. Obama once said "we got the job right but the communication wrong, both equally matters." getting the job right is not always the way for a new government like ours that is trying to gain trust. the communication is equally important.
5. this is not the only time when the lose the narrative for SM conspiracy. The Somali region incident was another example. the state communication even looks nonfunctional these days. The government communication office, as much as it had bad reputation it is an important office.
6. I think GCO don't know how to transit from being a propaganda machine to a proper communication body that asserts proper government narrative. In the long term losing the communication narrative will cost the government. as governments can not always stay popular.
7. GOE please have a proper communication strategy and focus on shaping the narrative in a proper direction with out limiting access to information. losing narrative for Facebook is not cool, and shows clear gap with in GCAO. CC @fitsumaregaa
