Back in May, Paul Ryan personally solicited billionaire Sheldon Adelson for $30Million for the CLF. He made the pitch and then walked out of the room so that someone else could make the actual “ask”, in order to avoid campaign finance violations. esquire.com/news-politics/…
The Adelsons have since given ANOTHER $25Million on top of the original $30Million. They are single-handedly trying to buy the next Congress for their own personal gain. washingtonpost.com/news/post-poli…
And what has that money paid for? Lies. Distortions. Slander.
The good news, however, is that money doesn’t vote. PEOPLE DO!
But we still have to fight those lies so that people aren’t duped again.
How do we fight back?
*Donate. Even $5 can help counter their message.
*Know Your Enemy and what they're saying. If someone repeats a CLF lie, correct them.
*Call them out on their Twitter (@CLFSuperPac) and Facebook (facebook.com/CongressionalL…) accounts, but do NOT amplify them.
In #NY19, the CLF has issued racist attacks against Antonio Delgado for <gasp> releasing a rap album 10 years ago. A disgusting scare tactic in this majority white District. recordonline.com/news/20180727/…
In #KY06 the CLF used a “random” woman in their ads to lie about Amy McGrath. This “random” woman just so happened to work for Mitch McConnell and just so happened to have a racist social media history. kentucky.com/news/politics-…
In #KS03 the CLF used a “random” woman in an ad to trash Sharice Davids…and that “random” woman turned out to be a Kansas GOP official. mcclatchydc.com/news/politics-…
In #OH01 the CLF is blowing that racist dog whistle as they try to tie Indian-Tibetan Aftab Pureval with Libyan terrorism. Seriously. wvxu.org/post/commentar…
These are just a few examples of what we are up against.
Lies and smears and scare tactics backed by $100Million.
Do You Know Your Enemy?
Ya GOTTA Know Your Enemy.
Just came across yet ANOTHER misleading CLF ad in which a random "concerned wife and mother" takes shots at Katie Porter in #CA45.
Except I did some research and she's not so random. She's a GOP operative/consultant according to her OWN LinkedIn page: linkedin.com/in/cynthiaquim…
Oh look, another pathetic CLF ad torn to shreds, this time for blatant lies about Jason Crow in #CO06.
#OH12 left us with a cliffhanger. We all worked so hard to give @dannyoconnor1 an outright win. Yes it's a steep climb, but it could still happen. Either way, we did good!
But let's not overlook the OTHER good House news from last night.
In "Toss-up" #MI08 Democratic primary voters OUT-VOTED Republican primary voters.
Democrat Elissa Slotkin (@ElissaSlotkin) is going to FLIP this seat right out from under incumbent GOP Rep. Mike Bishop.
But only if we help her right now.
Register. Vote. DONATE. Volunteer.
In "Toss-up" open seat #MI11, Democratic primary voters OUT-VOTED Republican primary voters.
But Democrat Haley Stevens (@HaleyLive) needs to hit the ground running if we want to FLIP this seat.
I usually don’t take sides in primaries, but when it comes to the "Democrats" of the Independent Democratic Conference (IDC) in the New York State Senate, I have no choice.
PLEASE WATCH this explainer on the IDC narrated by Edie Falco:
There are 9 real Democrats challenging 9 fake “Democrats” this year in the New York State Primary on THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 13TH.
These real Democrats MUST win their primaries if NY is to have a true-blue Progressive future.
PLEASE spread the word on these @NoIDCNY candidates!
In NY State Senate District 38, real Democrat Julie Goldberg (@Julie4NYSenate) is vying to unseat IDC “Democrat” David Carlucci. Julie is an educator, a writer, and a mom who wants to fight for Progressive values in NY.
Q2 Fundraising is over, and Democrats did a great job!
But I was chatting with @ybbkaren and an interesting question came up:
With SO MANY great candidates, how do we decide who needs donations the most? Many are worthy, but our personal funds are not unlimited.
So I came up with an idea for my own list of Dems who need $$$ based upon the following criteria:
*They have won their primary
*They are trying to flip “swing” GOP-held seats (per @CookPolitical ratings)
*They are behind their GOP opponents in “Cash on Hand” (per @OpenSecretsDC)
That’s not to say that other Democrats in swing districts are not worthy. They are. But the following, from a strategic $$$ perspective, might be the best place to donate *for now*.
This is the list of those House candidates, and their donation links, based on that criteria:
