On #NYPrimary day, #NYCHA asked its residents, mostly people or color, to remain home from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for an apartment inspection. Is that suss to you or nah? #VoteNYC
To give more context:
I found out from my mother this morning, when I called her to remind her to vote, that she received a notice in her door that NYCHA wanted her and her neighbors to remain home from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. today in order to have their apartments preliminary inspected for lead-paint hazards.
Because my mother works from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m,, that would have meant that she would potentially miss being able to vote.
I wound up being late for work myself and went to my mother's house to wait for the inspector while she went out to vote.
My mother says that her building and at least a half dozen others received these same notices.
Other neighbors have been kind enough to watch each other's apartments while they go to vote. But I worry that maybe not everyone has this luxury/camaraderie.
