Don't wait until the shock wears off (if it ever does), right after you out of immediate danger, document EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU. Here are some ways:

Write it all down. Make multiple copies. Mail those copies separately to yourself as sealed certified letters. Years down the line you may want to open one and read it with your therapist. Years down the line you may want to give one to your parents or your spouse so

they understand. But keep TWO for that moment that the woman who is actually brave enough to come forward and accuse the person who attacked you. Give one to her lawyer and send another to the police investigating her claim.

Make a recording. Make a video or audio recording of you telling exactly what happened to you and how it made you feel. Make it with your computer or your phone. Then transfer the audio file to a hard drive on which you won't put anything else. Store the hard drive

somewhere safe (like a safe if you have access to one) and never use it for anything. In addition, put the audio or video file on a few flash drives. The flash drives you may wish to share like the letters years down the line. But don't mess with the hard drive until you

are ready to accuse the person who attacked you at which time you can hand it over to authorities.

It may take decades for you to heal, if you ever do completely. And no matter what credibility you build up during those decades with your job or your charity work or whatever,

once you reveal that you were sexually assaulted by someone who, at the time, was powerful or influential, unless you are one of 50 women making the accusation at the same time Bill Cosby style, you WILL BE TORN DOWN. YOU WILL BE DRAGGED. The documentation you made to yourself

at the time of the assault won't even completely buffer you from being dragged. BUT, it will go a LONG WAY. YOU DON'T HAVE TO *COME FORWARD* BUT YOU CAN'T STAY SILENT - TELL YOURSELF WHAT HAPPENED AND DOCUMENT IT!
