@LindseyGrahamSC Re what you & GOP see as futility of investigating 36-year old case:
/1/ As with any background investigation this is not necessarily re criminal conduct (so everyone can stop being talking jurisdiction) but character
@LindseyGrahamSC /2/ the standard of "proof" for elevation to SCOTUS is not "beyond reasonable doubt" but AT MOST "preponderance of evidence." Remember: NOTHING IS BEING TAKEN FROM KAVANAUGH. Promotion to SCOTUS not a "right."
@LindseyGrahamSC /3/ POTUS himself set higher standard when he said this week (yesterday?) that additional hearing should be held so "no one has any doubt"
@LindseyGrahamSC /4/ So why include an FBI investigation rather than just testimony? An investigation of who they were IN HIGH SCHOOL - not 30-40 years later - gives the Committee and the public the necessary CONTEXT to evaluate their testimony
@LindseyGrahamSC /5/ Thanks to public record statements ( looking st you Mark Judge) it is reasonable to suspect that Kavanaugh drank frequently in high school and on occasion passed out, possibly leading to a memory blackout
@LindseyGrahamSC /6/ If drunken blackouts happened, then Kavansugh CANNOt say definitively that he did not attack Blasey. We already know - by his own autobiographical admission - that the other person in the room regularly drank himself to oblivion and thus is an unreliable witness
@LindseyGrahamSC /7/ Answers to those questions give us a framework for evaluating testimony. NOW ... attitudes toward women at that time...
@LindseyGrahamSC /8/ Yes, attitudes CAN change over time but when evaluating a possible assault during High School, who he became and what he now thinks are irrelevant. Who WAS he and what did he think AT THE TIME?
@LindseyGrahamSC /9/ IS this his yearbook entry and ARE the translations provided accurate for the period during which the entry was written? (h/t @riotwomennn )
@LindseyGrahamSC@riotwomennn /10/ Is this Mark Judge's yearbook entry? (Fairly clear what that tells us about Judge's view of women .... )
@LindseyGrahamSC@riotwomennn /11/ Have the FBI answer THOSE questions (and others as they arise) and the Committee and the electorate will have a valid context for discussing and deciding upon the validity of testimony about a decades-old event.
