This latest diplomatic spat between #India and #Pakistan is going to play it like it always does. #Pakistan for once needs to go on the offense and actually hammer home the point that listen we try talking every single time and get rebuffed.. That is not on.. that is not OK
For all effective purposes, #Pakistan should seriously consider dropping out of SAARC and take a stand on why it is absolutely useless given how #India genuinely has not tried to make it work. Instead, they opted for Bimstec.
In addition to that, #Pakistan should start making serious overtures to Nepal. There is no longer a single way in to Nepal. Negotiate with the Chinese to have access to the other route in to Nepal and help them out. They have been blackmailed long enough
There is a regional dynamic at play, if #Pakistan get out of its obsession with a narrow view of foreign policy, there is a lot more at play here and if #Pakistan is to actually benefit from CPEC, they need to think beyond just getting investment in, think about using the route
The issue with the foreign policy of #Pakistan and generally south Asia is that it is so dependent on foreign powers that they do not consider how they can help each other out. Nepal is moving out of #India's orbit.. #Pakistan has the potential for trade with Nepal in a big way
The thing that limited #Pakistan earlier was a route to Nepal. A route is available because the Chinese built it. Now if #Pakistan can leverage their role in CPEC and bigger OBOR, there is a potential to open up a new market for exports and investments. Strictly business
Sri Lanka has gone through a similar shift too. At this stage, India has an influence on Bhutan who rely on them heavily and on Bangladesh. Beyond that Nepal and Sri Lanka are moving away because of years of abusive relationship. And that is where #Pakistan's opportunity is
#pakistan can be the responsible neighbor. Again I revert to my work in #Taiwan where we can learn from on them with regards to being the good responsible helpful neighbor and partner instead of someone trying to live out their childhood insecurities of being an imperial power
And just to be clear my argument on SAARC is not a new one, I have been saying this for a while adnanrasool.com/ca/saarcnotwor… at this stage I am just hoping that #Pakistan realizes the potential they have. And seriously, the world has so much to learn from #Taiwan in diplomacy
