Regional dictatorships have decisively helped shape the Trump admin's #Iran policy.
What are their aims? To provoke an escalatory reaction from Iran that will get them what they've always wanted: the US to go to war against Iran.
Iran must not fall for the bait.
While Obama tried to gain much-needed leverage w/ these dictatorships & engage #Iran, Trump has let them run the show.
#Saudis' 1st interest has been destroying any transnational movements that could threaten Saudi royals: whether pan-Arabism, Islamism, or liberal democracy
Alongside his calls for the "battle" to be taken "inside Iran," Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman has branded as part of a “triangle of evil” Iran, Turkey, and Islamic groups such as the Muslim Brotherhood.
All three happen to have a degree of accountability to their constituents, in contrast to #Saudi leaders.
US has abetted these dictatorships for too long. They're a major obstacle not only to democratic aspirations of regional peoples, but do more harm than good to US interests.
John Kerry said that all through the nuclear talks, states like #Saudi & the #Emiratis pushed the US to just bomb #Iran.
Fmr Defense Secretary Robert Gates in 2007 angrily rebuked Saudi king's demand for US to go to war against #Iran: "as if we were mercenaries."
It is long past time for the US to reign in the destructive impulses of states like #Saudi Arabia, push them to reform domestically, stop obstructing regional democratic movements, & cease escalation w/ #Iran--which threatens catastrophic regional war that US will be dragged into

Amid reports in Israeli media that Trump & Rouhani may hold a meeting during September UNGA, Kuwaiti Al Jarida--widely believed to be used by Israel to disseminate info to regional countries--says Trump has accepted 7 Iranian conditions for bilateral negotiations.

Context of these reports is of course that Israel has track record of vehemently opposing US-Iran diplomacy/improvement of relations & of sabotaging such efforts. So take them how you will.

First, the Israeli Ma'ariv outlet reported that Trump & Rouhani may meet during the UNGA. The report simply quoted a senior UN official as stating "we think it's worth making the effort to take this opportunity to push toward a meeting between the two leaders."
