Before he was accused of sexual assault, I looked at #BrettKavanaugh & I saw the face of an alcoholic. My father was a severe alcoholic. Today - the sporadic moments of belligerence then outpouring of emotion, the victim mentality, denial, all of it - it couldn't be clearer.
My father died from complications resulting from alcoholism. For a long time, I had been angry w/ him. It was only when he died that I appreciated this was an addiction over which he had no control, so I do not mean this as judgment of people who struggle w/ alcohol addiction.
People w/ alcohol addiction often have two faces - one they present to the world, one they present to their families. So it is no surprise that Judge #Kavanaugh would have so many of his colleagues & others attest to his character & fitness to serve on the Supreme Court.
I saw it though in the way he interacted with his wife during the interview with @FoxNews. The way he interjected & answered a question directed towards her & the way she seems to defer to him.
She looks like she is about to flinch when she is in his presence. Just think, his behavior today was in public - imagine what he is like in private, when he is angry. I have no doubt that their relationship is abusive.
To then watch him be so aggrieved & have White male Senators fall over themselves to apologize to him b/c he has been accused of abusing another woman was hard for me to watch. I wondered how it felt to her. I wonder how all of this feels to her & her children.
I could write a much longer thread about this, about alcoholism (how people can be super high-functioning, the secrecy), talking much more about my personal experience (not sure I want to), lots more I observed about #BrettKavanaugh, but super tired, so for another time.
