Many on the left are calling this a “sham investigation” and I can’t help but think of @sarahkendzior and @AndreaChalupa’s convo on #GaslitNation about the 2016 election...could the left/Dems be backed into a corner again in the exact same way? 1/
During the 2016 election, as Kendzior and Chalupa pointed out, Trump kept pointing to a rigged election. The Dems pushes back hard that our elections were secure, leaving themselves no room in the end to point to the actual rigging. 2/
So now, Trump has seen chaos one more time by saying the FBI has “free reign” while also sending a letter limiting the range of the Kavanaugh investigation. The left is crying foul, saying the investigation is a sham. 3/
Meanwhile, @Comey wrote an op-ed yesterday saying FBI can do its job. The way I see it is Trump wins either way. If the investigation reveals damning info for Kav, & those on the left have called it a sham, the Repubs can also call it a sham & disregard/spin it to their favor. 4/
And if the investigation reveals nothing or is “inconclusive,” the Repubs + Joe Traitor Manchin have the cover they need to shrug and vote to confirm. 5/
.@sarahkendzior and @AndreaChalupa, your thoughts on this conundrum? Also: when will Dems quit playing Charlie Brown to Trump’s Lucy?

As an adoptive parent, I am a beneficiary and perpetrator of a system build on the separation of children from their parents. I can attest that the trauma of such separation—even under the *very best* of circumstances—is deep, complicated, and lifelong. 1/
Separation of children from parents should only ever be done as a last resort. What is happening at our southern border is barbaric, inhumane, amoral, and despicable. It is also, at it's core, racist. 2/
It is not lost on me that racism is no small part of separation of children from parents in the world of adoption and foster care. Some may point out that this is very different as adopted children are often placed in loving "forever" homes. 3/
