So someone on #BBCQT was shouted down for saying the UK is one of the least racist societies because he is white. Let's look at the data rather than the anecdotes, shall we? 1/
2/ The U.K. has the least unfavourable view of Muslims of any European country polled by Pew.
3/ The U.K. is consistently more comfortable with interracial relationships than most european countries.
4/ Left, right, and centre voters in the UK are more pro-diversity than most european countries.
5/ Brits are more likely to say 'diversity makes my country a better place to live' than almost every other european country.
this isn't to say there isn't any racism in the UK. No one on the programme tonight alleged that. But it is to say that the UK is one of the least racist societies on earth.
You need to recognise the good in society in order to build on it.
8/ Brits are amongst the most positive about immigration - an upward trend since 2010:
9/ here is @sundersays: "Britain has comparatively strong anti-racism norms. Difficult to identify 3 western countries which are distinctly stronger. (Left, liberals should acknowledge this)"
